Yall don’t wanna do a tax strike, debt strike, rent strike. Nothing.

Don’t wanna boycott airlines. Don’t wanna pirate streaming services.

Don’t wanna do anything but whine and then whine some more when nothing changes.

Social media parenting makes everything sound so absolute. Sometimes you just have to actually live with a 1-year-old to understand that there’s a LOT of grey area.

And honestly, if I didn’t have a 15-month-old myself, I probably would have agreed to your caption.

But parenting a toddler has taught me that it’s not always that black and white.

My son knows he’s not supposed to come into the bathroom when I’m having my bath. I’ve consistently told him no, shut the door when necessary, and allowed him to cry through it. Now, most days, he understands. Sometimes he whines a little and goes back to the sitting room. Sometimes he doesn’t even react. He knows the routine.

But there are STILL days when he’ll cry, push the bathroom door, throw a proper tantrum because he wants to be with me. And some days I’m just like, “You know what? Fine.”

Not because I’ve suddenly decided that my boundaries don’t matter. Sometimes I just want to have my bath in peace without listening to a baby scream for 15 minutes. So I sacrifice my privacy for that particular moment. That’s it.

Same thing in the kitchen. I baby-proofed my cabinets, but sometimes he comes into the kitchen bored and wants my attention while I’m trying to cook or do the dishes. There are days I’ll unlock one cabinet for him and let him play with the safe things inside so I can get my job done.

There are days I don’t want him watching tv and there are days I put on the tv because I need 30 minutes of peace.

Does that mean I’m raising a spoiled child? Does it mean I’m teaching him that “no” means nothing?

No.

It means I’m raising an actual toddler, not a robot. 😂

Toddlers are learning boundaries, emotions, patience and independence all at once. You can consistently teach them “no” and still occasionally choose convenience, peace or survival without undoing all the work you’ve done.

One exception does not erase the boundary. One peaceful bath does not create a spoiled child.

@HoneyTooRaw Literally! Adult friendship is just mutual survival at this point: “I love you, I miss you, I’m exhausted, but we’ll catch up when life stops fighting us.”

[H O N E Y @HoneyTooRaw]

adult friendship is basically “i love you, i’m alive, life beating my ass, talk soon.” 😭

Y'all get irritated with people fast because y'all parents did the same with you. Y'all can't communicate because y'all parents couldn't. Y'all think yelling/ being aggressive every time u disagree with something is okay because y'all parents yelled/ got hostile when they.

Growing up shy gave me a lot of time to just listen and I learned that a lot of talkers are rude and painfully boring.. so if a shy person is still not talking to u.. well..
