One morning at the age of 39 years, weighing 94 kgs, I went for a run, off the fly and to my utter dismay, I found that I couldn't run more than 100 meters without gasping for breath.
I told myself, this is not fair.
The next day I again ventured out, this time did better, ran 150 meters, gasping for breath.
The following day I went again, and this continued till I could run a 5km in 43 minutes.
For the initial 2 years, I ran with a lot of pain on my ankles and sheen. but kept going nevertheless.'
I completed my first 10km in 127 hours, it took me two years to graduate from 10km to 21km.
Crossing the finish line of my first 10km at Cubbon Park will always remain special and little did I know that this will be my passion and purpose for the rest of my life.
The run was not smooth sailing, I walked, jogged, labored hard to complete the run.
I was in the bottom 10% of runners, it was a big relief when I planted my right leg on the finishing mat and then my left leg and then my whole body, not the ideal way to finish any run, you are supposed to sprint and run the fastest.
The feeling was sinking in slowly, I the unhealthy, Underdog had just finished a 10km run -It was better than coming 4th in class XI or getting distinction in my board exam.
When I was running 10km and saw folks running 21km, I thought to myself, Here I am struggling to run 10km, how, the hell, are they running twice the distance.
I competed my first 21km finally in 2.47 hours.
Then from 21km to 42k to 50km to 84km to 161km everything happened in 15 months.

Ultra Running has taught me 5 things.

1) Don't force things.
All of us will experience some tremendous highs, & depressing lows, personal, professional.
You will ask yourself why me? & much more.
At times life will appear meaningless.

2)You cannot parachute your way to success.
Instead, do the hard work & put yourself in a position to succeed and take it from there.

3) Don't think too far
When you think too far, you are missing the moment, the now.
Life is an aggregation of moment's & memories.

4) Don't let your goals weigh you down
Goals will keep shifting all the time, the things which will motivate you will weigh you down.
instead control your input, be better every moment, every day, this is in your control.

5)Stop comparing.
Comparisons lack context. Our circumstances are unique to us.
What you see in the mirror is your "Competition."

12000 years old Petroglyph found in #Ratnagiri Maharashtra is the oldest Map in the world.

12000 years ago when the last #Iceage ended.
- The sea levels soared by 60 meters from 140 meters lower than present levels.
- The average temperature also rose to around a level of 4°-6° celcius less than today.

Someone or a group of people, or a generation of people travelled the length and breadth of India and itched it in #Ratnagiri Maharashtra. They probably perceived Indian shape as a big Elephant who has four legs like four directions. They engraved this imagination with whatever they found in different directions. It would have taken 10s of years a man to draw 14x12 meter pictograph bare handed using stone tools.
Gathering of directions and peculiarities itself would have taken 100s of years. A set of generations probably did this humongous task.

Features of the map
- The head of Elephant has 2 man shown. It probably means that the narrators want to show that man only lived in Ratnagiri and Madhyapradesh at that moment. This is also possible because Madhyapradesh falls on Tropic of Cancer which were warmer than rest of the India post Ice Age.

-The Elephant has got 7 mountains type figures probably the pre-cursor to India depicted in Mahabharata's.

-Assuming the head in the West Position (Ratnagiri is in West), it depicts four animals found in each directions. For eg, -Bengal Tiger is positioned near Bengal region (East),
-Langoor in North,
-Pangolin in South-East ,
-Boar near present Ratnagiri and MadhyaPradesh. The petroglyph also houses a shark in the South-east area.

- A Kangaroo 🦘 sort of animal can be seen near the trunk of the elephant. Could this be Australian continent who knows.

- There are several birds and other animals (mostly unrecognised / extinct). Interestingly only Langoor and other predators survived and can be seen in today's environment.
