@theta1540@davidsirota "It would not be impossible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. They are mere words, and words can be molded until they clothe ideas and disguise."
-Joseph Goebbels
@Mostrarasesor@sahouraxo Just because he released information critical of the US, and showed "some" of the atrocities, doesn't make him a hero. He didn't do it selflessly for the good of the world, he had threatened to leak data harmful to Russia...but didn't.
Assange is and was about assange.
@Thoureauly@MccIsabella@EricShapiro3 Anyone can claim that they're only responding to aggression.
Ukraine was invaded, but we don't talk about the preceding 8 years ...Pelosi traveled to Taiwan, despite US official support for One China policy. The USS Maine and Gulf of Tonkin were both "false flag" operations.
@Thoureauly@MccIsabella@EricShapiro3 I love my country, and recognize it's all too common faults. We propagandize ourselves and exploit both citizens and other countries, in much the same way as other great, and diminishing, powers do.
I shut out the noise and blame, especially from state media spoiling for war.
@Thoureauly@MccIsabella@EricShapiro3 I've come to an antiwar position after having served as a warfare commander, and having been steeped in the history and patriotic ethos of a Service Academy graduate.
That said, it's quite easy to posture as the reacting victim of another's aggression. That's my original point.
@Thoureauly@MccIsabella@EricShapiro3 "Leftists" are anti-war, between nations, in general. So the idea of promoting one side or the other is anathema, regardless of alleged causation.
Believing that the end justifies the means, support for Ukraine to thwart Russia or vice versa, in unethical.
Just my opinion.
@Thoureauly@MccIsabella@EricShapiro3 That's why I put "justification" in parentheses. At the end of the day it's still about games empires play.
Wikipedia is not a great source, neither is the one I'm providing, but more sources are better than one.

@Thoureauly@MccIsabella@EricShapiro3 Go back far enough and everyone can find a justification for every retaliatory act throughout history.
All games empires play. I think the leftist positions I've most heard are centered around the disgust for US and NATO hypocrisy. Some may see Russian success as schadenfreude.
@Thoureauly@MccIsabella@EricShapiro3 Anti-NATO and US hegemony I'd not necessary pro-Russia. Acknowledgement of the Minsk agreement violations and Russian "justification" for a reaction is just that.
Your sister hit you so you are justified, but not righteous in your indignation if you retaliate.
@ThreeDayCondor@KimMart04468123@equalityAlec Being a lawyer isn't the only way to gain extensive exposure to the system. I have had more contacts with it than I care to remember, as a former naval officer that had lots of young sailors that tends to happen.
Growing up as a black man in the inner city also leaves a mark!
@ThreeDayCondor@KimMart04468123@equalityAlec Failed third grade? Well I do have two BS's and a Masters, so that adds up to three.
You do realize that my only reason for being on Twitter is to antagonize people like you and to see you twist.
This isn't real, it doesn't matter and only rarely do you "win" here.
@ThreeDayCondor@KimMart04468123@equalityAlec The fingers in the ears nah nah nah argument....well I haven't seen that since, my third child did it when he was 5.
People that would wave the "expert card" because they can't articulate an argument really shouldn't represent others in court.
Way to crumble.
@hotgayscientist@CapnHankMurphy@Prismatic85@TARSRel0aded@MatthewPHoh You're failing to see the circular nature of your "definition" which isn't.
"An ace of spades is a card that looks like an ace of spades".
How would someone who has never seen one, know what the hell an ace of spades looks like from that statement? That is a circular statement.
@ThreeDayCondor@KimMart04468123@equalityAlec And the fact that someone isn't a lawyer has zero bearing on the merits of their observation or lived experience. Should I shut down all argument from anyone that lacks my qualifications, CV and professional expertise? That's a weak position to take, argue your point counselor.
@ThreeDayCondor@KimMart04468123@equalityAlec I'm not a lawyer. But we are talking about the structure of a system you are trained to work within, and I dare say have a less than objective perspective of. It's reductionist to make a manichean argument about the stewardship of one corrupt party vs another, the system is bad.
@TheWhaleShark @1_div_0 @AGGJohnston @dlbowman76 That said, if you're so self obsessed and indulgent that you choose a major that has no redeeming marketability... you're just a putz that has been told that you're special for far too long. Most people the world over have to temper educational options to subsist, ROI is a thing.
@TheWhaleShark @1_div_0 @AGGJohnston @dlbowman76 The issue isn't education, it's character. What you choose to study in college isn't the point, and way too late anyway. We should have more rigorous standards in all US schools, quality's more important than scapegoating STEM. There are oblivious art majors and engineers.
@ThreeDayCondor@KimMart04468123@equalityAlec I think you're the one missing the point. You want to simplify the issue to "Republicans bad." It alleviates you from the final connection that it's not party, it's the systematic injustice that has been the American way for a very long time. Partisanship + denial =intransigence.
@VivianMadisonM1@ArmandoLostaun1@lindyli If you think the mainstream media is only now changing, than you've been living in a dream world.
What part of corporate media, corporatist political parties and capitalist society do you not understand?
Now that it slightly impacts your preferred television viewing you notice.
@davidsirota Better bet, if you conflate any criticism of President Biden with sympathy for facisim, it's a good bet your a partisan toady...sorry...a paid partisan propagandist toady.
