This is NOT the way to go. Even CWC, the central agency for water management (flowing and frozen) has a very weak Division of Glaciology.
ICIMOD in Nepal is doing more research on Himalyan glaciers than any other institution in the region.

With @NEETAS11 on counter-terror aspects of BRICS
BRICS should move from summit-level declarations to focused implementation.
For success, delegations must be multi-ministerial and stable for three to five years.
Members should publish annual sanitised threat reports on CFT issues trends and typologies.
India should avoid making BRICS an India-Pakistan dispute; instead it should build support around UN-listed terrorist entities and implementation of UN sanctions and asset freezes.

Reported Houthi gains near Bab el-Mandeb are strategically significant, but not as expansive as being stated. Their control over the Bab el Mandeb is as yet a distant, but closer to realistic possibility.
The apparent goal is to pressure Saudi Arabia through its energy and maritime vulnerabilities in order to make the current talks between Iran & 6 GCC countries.
Total Red Sea closure unlikely as the situation is not the same as Hormuz, which was closed by both warring sides. Escalation is potentially coercive bargaining rather than proof of a decisive Houthi victory. Also, Horn of Africa economies also depend on the passage.

'Supra-GLOF' or SGLOF
After 24 hrs of the previous post, one can safely say that the cause of the flash flood was a GLOF in a supra glacial lake (lake within a glacier).
The seismic tremors recorded (revised to 5.2M now by @USGS) were because of the sudden release of these glacial waters, debris and cascading landslides.
An earthquake of 4.4M about 100km upstream of Gyirong county checkpost.
The tremor was almost at the same time when the debris hit the port.
So the jury is still out, whether the cause was seismic, GLOF or just a landslide.
My suspicion, from the nature and speed of the glacio fluvial debris is GLOF.l. But was that GLOF caused by a tremor - we shall wait for more evidence.
The same disaster had struck the same port last year taking out 8% of Nepal's power gen capacity.
Since PM Balen Shah took over in Nepal, technical meetings between Nepal and India have speeded up.
Much more can be done to partner with Nepal, especially since it could lose its LDC status by 2029.
Nepal's stable macro economic factors and the fixed NPR:INR rate of 1.6 are the foundational blocks for its future growth.

The Space Race:
1. Concentration Risk: US and China made 88% of orbital launches in 2025, while Russia, having lost much of its capacity to war and sanctions, targets weaponisation of space
2. Spectrum filings with ITU are a must: 1 million filings - 200k each by US and China, 100k by France, 340k by Rwanda (!)
3. US capacity runs the key-person risk: all LEO sats concentrated in one man, Elon Musk, while Chinese capacity is diversified
4. Space is now critical infrastructure - for science, commerce, welfare and war. And much of the metal up there is dual-use

Renowned journalist @suchetadalal on one of her first breaking news stories in 1992, regulatory issues of the time and her ongoing activism through @Moneylifers for consumer protection, her lifelong passion.
“All the institutions were primitive (in 1992)… RBI was using manual ledgers… a cheque from Grindlays to Citibank would first get deposited in Harshad Mehta’s account and then go. It was described as accepted market practice.”
“The special scam court and custodian still exist 30 years later. Cases went on for decades… by the time appeals reached the Supreme Court, it was bored of hearing things.”
“You should not have a problem in simple things like your inheritance, nominations, keeping your bank account alive… I began to find that hurts me even more. That’s why we moved from being exposé-oriented journalists to helping people through Moneylife.”

Moderated by @SafiAhsanRizvi Ahsan Rizvi, IPS (Retd.), this episode features @rasheshshah Co-Founder of @EdelweissFin Group and veteran Indian businessman.

@rasheshshah, Chairman Edelweiss Financial Services Limited on a podcast for @PPFNewDelhi
Podcast - https://t.co/wZ7JigdzEl
1. “India from a distance is always very stable… when you go near, it is very chaotic… one step forward, one step backward, one step sideways. But over 30 years, the market has given more than 100x return.”
2. Edelweiss began with a classic MBA five‑year plan - 30 lakh, 50 lakh, 1 crore, 1.5 crore, 2 crore in profits. “We made exactly 30 lakhs in the first year… second year we made 25 lakhs… third year 18 lakhs… then 1 crore and 11 crores,” he recalls. “Very early on you learn that life is not linear; it’s a lot more exponential. And there is uncertainty.”
3. “In financial services, the last 8-10 years the regulatory cholesterol has gone up… maybe the time has come to let the accelerator go a little bit faster and allow some mistakes, with some tolerance.”
4. “We had to change our entire culture from control to value creation. We said we don’t care about control, we care about value creation. The real religion is value, not control.”
5. Leadership is learning to “keep your mouth shut” - Decentralisation forced a personal shift. “Ten years ago I would end up making 100 decisions in a month. Now it’s a good month if I make one decision,” he says. “Almost every meeting my inner dialogue has to be: keep your mouth shut,” resisting the urge to jump in so leaders can truly own decisions.

Risk in markets and Resilience of the economy with @JainNirmal of @iiflcapital for @PPFNewDelhi
29 mins of https://t.co/BzW3P6sfJD
1. Early FDI investors exiting India with “a lot more than what they invested” is actually a “very good message,” proving this is a country where you can make profits and freely take them out.
2. Cautions that seeing equity as mere speculation can be damaging, arguing that “equity is a risk capital” and that without $2-3bn of equity “no one is going to give you debt” to build a $5bn business.
3. Foreign capital is “not competing with local savings” but with other countries, and many peers like Singapore and Thailand don’t tax long‑term equity gains, so India must “do a lot more” to stay competitive.
4. Inflation “hits the poor more” since they spend almost all their earnings, making low inflation with steady real growth far healthier than chasing big rupee numbers.
Is the G2 already here? I think it is.
Seven very clear signs of the US and China dividing the world into their spheres of influence, with grudging yet mutual respect.
Bilaterals continue. US retracted a shade on Taiwan, while China allowed US space over Iran.
And a lot more.

Given the unbearable heat in North India, it would be useful to listen to this podcast with DG IMD, Dr Mohapatra.
El Nino is going to heat us up towards the 2nd half or end of this monsoon. Here is a deep dive into all the factors that could mitigate or exacerbate that effect
The IOD, WD, Eurasian snowcover, Typhoon remnants, Tibetan High, Somali Jet, etc.
Then he explains climate change and the role of the sea as a sink and its limits.
He ends Part 1 with simple math on how much damage we do by burning one 100W bulb for 24 hrs.

The IDF (Intensity, Duration and Frequency) Curves of mentions of AI can only remind us of the Orwellian Prophesy, written 80 years ago.
AI may not be one ubiquitous 'Big Brother' or 'single party' as yet, but is already concentrated in a handful of American and Chinese corporations.
The danger signals are all over. All other nations need to take care. While reducing crime-risk and terror-risk maybe occupy centre-stage right now, the core problem is concentration-risk.
Apart from just surveillance, AI could enable much easier solutions for regime change or 'unpersoning' ie. 'cancelling' prominent individuals, eliminating the need to conduct untidy and bloody neutralisations as of Maduro and Ayatollah Khameini.
