8 months ago an old man’s card declined in Aldi so I paid his £34 shopping.

Yesterday a woman came up to me in a café and asked if I owned the car outside.

I said yes.

She handed me an envelope with my number plate on it.

Inside was £40 and a note from her dad.

He’d died.

I’ll probably do the same thing with the remaining £13 until there’s nothing left. I know it’s not a huge amount of money, but it feels like the right way to spend his £40. Something he never got to pay back ended up paying for someone else’s shopping instead.
