I left India as a medical doctor and returned as a scientist.

On returning, one of the things I observed were cliques and cabals at play in the scientific enterprise - the 'Pune' camp, the 'Delhi' camp, the 'Bangalore' camp, and so on. They governed insider information, permanent positions, awards, and even plum collaborations.

And as an outsider - I was in no camp! 😂

Yet, what ploughed me through then - and does so today - is the deep commitment to contribute to science in the country, aka my mission in science. More in the book! 📘

Most people coming back from a doctor's visit, can't tell what the diagnosis was, what is the name of the medicine or the test prescribed, the dosage, the do's, the don'ts and the diet. They have zero "agency" because they simply can't read the prescription which is written in English. It is time to change.
