Just over 6 months ago I discovered the note taking App Obsidian and started using it for my bible study notes.
I've made a few videos on it now so here are some of my most popular videos.

@carlthomas@expositcllctv Take a look at Beale and Carson's Commentary on the NT's use of the OT.
Isaiah 7, for example. They argue there was an established expectation of a two-fold fulfilment based on the surrounding passages (Isaiah 9:1-7).
I accept the invitation to ponder the Last Supper. Check out “Seven Functions of the Hands of Christ” in Leonardo’s Last Supper, according to Leo Steinberg:
Benefits of prayer:
• Spending time with God
• Changing our focus
• Hearing from God
• God answers our prayers
• Being more grateful and happy
Just a few reasons why prayer is so valuable.
What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus?
John Mark Comer lays it out in his recent book Practicing The Way.
Here’s a sketchnote summary of the highlights.
The 5 pillars of an ambitiously quiet life:
•[Love] one another
•[Work] with your hands
•[Mind] your own affairs
•[Walk] Properly before outsiders
•[Don't] be dependent on anyone
1 Thes 4:9-12
The term “Digital sabbaths” reveal a lot about how we view social media.
The sabbath is a time:
- to rest from work
- to enjoy what we have
- to worship God
That suggests that social media
- is hard work
- makes us ungrateful
- and distracts us from God
@dansweaza To clarify. Nijay starts by saying he wrote a book about what the early church was like and how different it was, but he says he isn’t an expert on the practical applications which he struggled with.
@dansweaza 4. The book thing is a joke to friends and they are both self-deprecating about academics in church.
What I do think is a fair comment is that they are aware of their exceptions that make small settings difficult, but not of other professions who might travel a lot.
What is the Gospel?
According to @MatthewWBates, it can't be summarised as just four points. Instead, it requires an understanding of Jesus as the King.
Here's a sketchnote summary of his book "Gospel Allegiance"
It deprives us of lament and approaching God honestly.
I’ve been looking at this idea of toxic positivity and I think is the consequence of Christianity without lament.
@KaitlynSchiess your comment in the lack of lament in the church really struck me. Recently I’ve been thinking about how church (especially in contemporary worship songs) have this “life is bad but praise god” and I’ve heard people say this at my church.
While not always wrong..
I attended Soul Survivor camps during my teenage years.
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Mike's abuse.
The Church should be the place of healing, not harm and safeguarding is a key step of that.
Today sees the release of ‘Let There Be Light’ - a documentary exploring the pattern of harmful behaviours experienced under the leadership of Mike Pilavachi, a prominent figure in the UK Church. Our hope is for this film to be something of a care-package for the hurting, at the same time asking how we might become a healthier Church in the future. We know it won’t serve everyone, but we pray it will help some.
We tell our story to shine light and help validate other’s experiences. It would have been much easier to say nothing - but a culture of silence up until now has been a significant force. Other voices speaking into this documentary are Dr Diane Langberg (recognised for her 50 years of clinical work with trauma victims), Dr Chi-Chi Obuaya (a respected London Harley Street consultant psychiatrist) and Dr Amy Orr-Ewing (a regarded UK theologian with a passion to advocate for survivors of abuse.) The film also points to some key organisations who provide support in this area and also safeguarding resources for churches.
While speaking on a painful subject it’s also important to acknowledge all of the pastors out there faithfully loving those that God has entrusted to them.
This is a story Beth and I chose to tell. Our prayer is for the healing of yesterday’s wounds and a brighter, safer Church tomorrow.
Let there be Light.
