Why is there SO MUCH division in our country?
π Because people are getting their identity from their politics and the groups they become part of.
And that's problematic...
If I look at everyone else around me as someone else who was also created in the image of a Loving God, then I value them...
No matter what they believe about various issues/topics.
That's where the Baptismal Covenant really means something by saying...
This stock market dip is incredible! I'm not a financial advisor professional, but I've always learned...
Buy low, sell high.
And THIS looks like one of the best buying opportunities we'll see in a long time!
The reality... the market WILL go back up. I'm not passing this up!
the weekday eucharist services i've seen use the daily office lectionary (and any sermon given is based on those readings).
the exception i've seen to weekday sermons straying from the readings has been for "saint" days.
i'm not a bishop, but it was clearly inserting political opinions into a sermon, which i don't agree with (the practice of doing that, not necessarily the opinion itself).
one of the things i've found refreshing since coming into the episcopal church is that there tends to be LESS of political jockeying, telling people what they should believe or do as it relates to political hot topics.
i sit in Sunday worship services with republicans, democrats, independents, and more... lots of differing points of view on lots of things. and when we come together, there's no politics. there's no agendas. we're there to worship Christ together.
what's interesting is that shortly after the sermon, there's the exchanging of the Peace... an important step in being able to come to the altar for Communion with a clean heart. it's hard to imagine that the bishop and the president were truly at peace with one another...
and that saddens me.
i think she would have had much greater opportunity to influence if she handled that service (specifically her sermon) differently.
for the record... i was taught that preaching a sermon in the episcopal church should focus on expounding on the Bible readings from the lectionary.
agree with the message or not... the pulpit in the episcopal church is not the place for political messages.
just my 2Β’
@fathafrank Neither of which are the scheduled lectionary (or daily office) readings... which reinforces my point.
And listen... I don't even have an issue necessarily with what was said. Really just how it was done.
I'm happy to announce that I've just been ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons in the @cfdiocese in the #EpiscopalChurch.
It's been a LONG journey, following a call that I sometimes felt would never get fulfilled. But today, I wake up as Rev. Dan King!

@trueirievibez @POTUS@RonDeSantis@VP I actually don't have a lot of expectations of POTUS and VP in this moment when a storm is bearing down on us. I actually look to the more local (including state) officials.
But that's part of the issue I have here... just felt like it was for show.
Ugh... @POTUS was useless... had to flip from this when he started reading questions from his script and go over to the Gov @RonDeSantis press conference that was WAY more useful.
Also, didn't need @VP to veep-splain to me that I'm supposed to take this one seriously this late in the game.
President Joe Biden, while addressing the nation about Hurricane Milton preparations, called out former president Donald Trump for leading an "onslaught of lies" about Hurricane Helene relief.
