It was just after dark in Erasmusrand, Pretoria.
A 49-year-old man was at home. Ordinary night. Doors locked. Lights on.

Then the door gave way.
In seconds, voices, movement, fear. Shots were fired.

Neighbors heard it. Someone called.
Minutes later red and blue lights cut through the night, and a Netcare 911 helicopter touched down on the highway nearby.

He was airlifted to a specialist trauma hospital. Fighting.
Paramedics, police, community members — all moving fast, trying to hold the line between chaos and care.

This morning Erasmusrand is quiet again. But the questions are loud.
How do we feel safe in our own homes?
Who is looking out for each other?

Right now the focus is on one thing: prayer and hope that he pulls through. That his family gets answers. That justice finds the people responsible.

A home should be the safest place.
Let’s keep talking, keep watching out, and keep demanding better.
