The details of this as$ault are SICKENING.

French prosecutors have now charged the 34-year-old with m*rder preceded or followed by r*pe after an attack so violent that the elderly victim suffered injuries consistent with s*xual violence, broken bones and traumatic neck injuries.

Police were called to Toulouse's Minimes district around 5 p.m. Sunday after neighbors reported hearing screams, insults and blows coming from the home. Officers entered through a window and found the woman on the bathroom floor with the suspect, who prosecutors said was also n*ked, intoxicated and extremely agitated.

The autopsy found injuries suggestive of s*xual violence, a fractured rib and spine, multiple facial hematomas and neck trauma compatible with asphyxiation. Additional pathology testing is still underway to determine the exact cause of de*th.

The victim had been bedridden for months after suffering a stroke and could not move on her own. Neighbors described her as "the little grandmother of the neighborhood" and said she often left her door unlocked so caregivers and family could get inside.

Police said the suspect fought officers during his arrest and injured one of them. Investigators also found blood inside the home and believe the victim had been moved through multiple rooms before she was discovered.

French reporting has conflicted on the suspect's background. La Dépêche reported that he was a Sudanese refugee in legal status with no criminal record, while other local reporting described him as homeless and previously known to police for theft.

He has been placed under formal investigation for m*rder preceded or followed by r*pe and remains in custody while prosecutors seek pretrial detention. A psychiatric evaluation has also been ordered.

A 93-year-old woman who could not even move on her own deserved safety in her own home. Instead, prosecutors say she endured an attack of almost unimaginable brutality.
