Ultimate Warrior beat André the Giant repeatedly during their 1989 feud—at least 20 documented times, depending on whether you count DQ/count-out victories and matches whose surviving records don’t specify a result.

Some of the most famous victories were astonishingly short: 18 seconds in Boston (Sept. 9), about 30 seconds in Washington, D.C. (Oct. 10, 19 seconds in Springfield (Oct. 11), 17 seconds in Philadelphia (Oct. 14), about 20 seconds in Winnipeg (Oct. 21), and only a matter of seconds at Madison Square Garden (Oct. 28).

Warrior also defeated André by DQ several times, including their nationally televised Intercontinental Championship match taped October 31 and aired on Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 25.

At Survivor Series 1989, they weren’t in a singles match, but Warrior also directly caused André’s elimination. Warrior knocked André out of the ring, and André was counted out just 26 seconds into the match. Warrior ultimately became the sole survivor.

So the remarkable part isn’t simply that Warrior beat André—it was that WWF booked Warrior to run through André in seconds on numerous occasions, helping establish Warrior as one of the company’s biggest attractions heading toward his WrestleMania VI match with Hulk Hogan.
