Saskatchewan’s Firearms Commissioner Robert Freberg is sounding the alarm on Ottawa’s gun buyback pilot. He calls it unfair, ineffective, and built on misinformation. Freberg says most of the banned “assault-style” firearms are actually hunting rifles or valuable collectibles, not crime guns. He warns the program won’t work nationwide, offers lowball compensation, and unfairly targets law-abiding hunters, sport shooters, and Indigenous harvesters—while doing little to address real crime. He also points out that police should focus on actual crime, not gun collection, and that Canada’s licensing system is already strict.
Freberg: “This isn’t about safety—it’s about politics, and it won’t solve gun crime.”

This morning, I'm making an 11-hour drive with a home-built micro trailer on the road to Edgewood, British Columbia.

That's where Rebel News reporter Drea Humphrey is embedded at Universal Ostrich Farms, the site of an ongoing battle between farmers, their supporters and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency over the fate of 400 birds.

Drea has been working around the clock as the CFIA is set to impose a cull on the flock of healthy ostriches — all because the birds were exposed to avian flu approximately 250 days ago.

Now, the birds are healthy, but the CFIA refuses to test them to make sure they're healthy, or sick, before they kill them. The worst part? These are not birds that are for human consumption, they're not even birds meant for cowboy boots.

These birds are being used in research for diseases like avian flu, and even COVID-19. If these birds are killed, that research dies, too.

This is why the Conservatives need to introduce new legislation to protect Canada's 2,500,000 licensed firearm owners.

I think the bans should be scrapped - if not...

Provisions need to include:
- A requirement for Fair Market Value compensation for all banned firearms; or grandfathering with use in lieu (not non-permissive storage);
- Appeal mechanism for high-value firearms;
- No requirement to surrender until payment confirmed and actually paid out;
- FMV would also apply to handguns (currently $0 compensation, delayed confiscation of 1,000,000 firearms);
- FMV requirement for RCMP "shadow-banned" firearms (non-named variants) with grandfathering also an option (currently not eligible for compensation or grandfathering)
- Payment multiplier for many years of non-use since May 1 2020 or other ban dates
- Compensation for ammunition (where an entire caliber group banned - like 50 BMG) and firearm-specific accessories.

Or just scrap the whole thing, right now.
