The incompetence in this government has become deeply disturbing.

How does a country like Kenya lose more than 6,700 shares worth Sh12 billion at the African Development Bank simply because annual subscription payments were missed?

This is not a small clerical mistake. This is a serious failure of financial stewardship, national representation, and basic responsibility.

Kenya’s stake has reportedly dropped from about 1.2 percent to around 1 percent after other countries took up the shares we failed to secure. That means our influence in one of Africa’s most important development finance institutions has been weakened because someone slept on the job.

The Cabinet Secretary for Treasury must explain to Kenyans how this happened, who failed to act, why the payments were missed, and what steps are being taken to recover Kenya’s position.

Public finance is not managed through excuses. It is managed through competence, vigilance, and accountability.

Kenyans deserve answers. More importantly, they deserve consequences.

While our collective attention was on the Utumishi Academy fire on Friday, 29 May, President Ruto quietly signed three bills into law.

As usual, I assume the worst with the laws:

1. National Disaster Risk Management Act - This law allows the state to declare a "climate or disaster emergency" and suspend civil liberties: ban protests, impose curfews, and close public spaces. DURING elections, like in 2027, it could be used to shut down voting stations in opposition areas under the guise of safety - for example a disease, violence or goons. The president appoints the board, concentrating power at the top. I suspect links to Ebola, land grabs, the affordable housing agenda and Elections 2027.

2. Equalisation Fund Appropriations Act - The government has deposited KSh 16.8 billion to the northern frontier district. That money can be turned into campaign leverage to reward compliant regions, punishing others and secure rights to rig through them. I also believe it is connected to Minnesota, Campaigns funding and Elections 2027.

3. Forest Conservation and Management Act - This is the worst, as it is an amendment - literal editing and customization to fit a purpose. It opens the door to elites seizing community land to sell carbon credits to foreign buyers, while locals lose access and receive nothing. Carbon Credits market is in billions - plant trees, hawk to the industrialized countries who seek carbon pollution compensation. Kenya also loses a chance to industrialize in the near future as we wont have any carbon credits, yet we have land and forests.

It also creates loopholes for corrupt officials to grant commercial logging concessions inside protected indigenous forests.
