ANTHROPIC CUT THE PRICE OF ITS SMARTEST MODEL 12 DAYS AGO. A FRESHMAN'S TRADING BOT NOTICED BEFORE HE DID
Your AI "alpha" bot is still running on last month's prices like a f*cking boomer
Claude Opus 5.5 dropped on September 22.
Input went from $5 to $4 per million tokens. Output went from $25 to $20. Cache reads went from 50 cents to 20.
Anthropic says it costs 40% less than Opus 5 on typical workloads and writes over 30% faster.
Most people read that and scrolled.
The freshman's bot runs Opus as the boss. Six OpenAI dots dig through https://t.co/hoVRC4boSb all day. A gate called JEV throws out the junk. Opus reads the few coins that survive and signs or rejects.
It is the most expensive brain in the bot, and it works the least.
On a normal day Opus gets about 19 calls. Before the update that cost him roughly $2.45. Now it's $1.47.
The model got cheaper and smarter at the same time. Terminal-Bench 4.0 went from 52.3% to 66.4%. OSWorld 2.1 from 74.0% to 81.8%.
The honest part: a cheaper model doesn't pick better coins by itself. The edge is still the gate and the rules. Opus is only the last word.
Put the expensive model at the end of the line, where every call matters. When the price drops, your bot gets cheaper overnight.
