Eleven years ago today, nine Black worshippers were murdered during Bible study at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston.
Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney. Cynthia Hurd. Susie Jackson. Ethel Lance. Rev. Depayne Middleton-Doctor. Tywanza Sanders. Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr. Rev. Sharonda Coleman-Singleton. Myra Thompson.
We say their names and remember the sacredness of their lives.
This was not only a mass shooting. It was a heinous act of white supremacy carried out in a house of worship. We must tell the truth about that hatred, grieve what it stole, and remain committed to dismantling the violence of racism in every form.

A white teenager is accused of spray-painting racist slurs and Nazi symbols on a Black family’s home in East Baton Rouge Parish.
According to attorney @ryankeiththompson, this family endured months of harassment before this incident. Now, an elderly Black woman says she is afraid to return to her home.
If Louisiana is serious about being tough on crime, acts of racial terror and intimidation must be treated as seriously as any other crime.
No family should have to live in fear because of hate.

The gutting of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 is one the most shameful acts to date perpetrated by the Roberts' Supreme Court. As a young Reagan Republican, Roberts worked to oppose the expansion of the Voting Rights Act, so this should surprise no one. 😳👇

"A lie told once is questioned. A lie repeated often enough becomes accepted. And once it becomes 'common sense,' people stop investigating it. That is how deception survives."

Republicans are failing Louisiana — and Democrats are failing to capitalize on it.
But more importantly, Black people are failing to maximize our power.
No state legislator should be proud of the product that’s been put out. Every state in the south is creating more opportunity for their people, but the Speaker of the House is from Louisiana. Republicans are a ball of confusion.
Numbers prove they are failing us. Numbers also prove a lack voters could flip the deck if we show up.
