@billyliucci One caveat from the video. Texas actually finished fifth in the SEC, above OU. Yes they weren’t one of the 5 SEc teams in the CFP, but they didn’t finish 6th in the conference

@AriWasserman Not true. Had Miami lost a third time to OSU week one, they would still have been good enough at the end of the year to make a serious run. Teams do actually improve during the year, such that some teams who struggled early could be dominant by the end.

And in 1990, you had to be ranked 1 to win a title. No playoffs, no BCS ranking. Bowl games were predetermined. So it was just who was highest at the end. Thus, you needed to beef up the schedule.
