Sophie Cunningham said something that 85% of Americans agree on: Biological men shouldn’t play in women’s sports, even if they "identify" as one. She even made sure to say she loves everyone as she made this statement. Media somehow turned that into "Sophie hates black people." We really don’t hate the media enough.

Cheryl Reeve played college ball in an era with no professional league waiting on the other side. The WNBA didn’t exist until 1996, eight years after she left La Salle.

Title IX was law but barely enforced. Women’s programs got the worse gym, the leftover budget, none of the coverage that funneled money and opportunity to men’s teams. She had to fight for every inch of a sport that barely wanted her in it.

Now she’s the one giving that ground away.

She stood courtside in a “Trans Kids Belong” shirt while Cunningham was getting harassed for saying she’d rather not compete against men.

Reeve wrote an op-ed arguing “we all win” when men are included in women’s sports. She knows exactly what it took to carve out a category where women could compete against women. Now she’s spending her platform tearing it back down. Where the heck is her spine?

How cowardly and selfish to be a beneficiary of Title IX only to become an accomplice to its unraveling.

Women’s sports already struggle to get respect. Women like this are not helping.
