@ADHD_Alien Sometimes I'm very eloquent and specific and witty. Sometimes I run out of disposable pipettes at work and tell a coworker that I need to get more sucky-squirties.
HUGE!
New York proposes SB8842 - would make NY a sanctuary state for trans families fleeing healthcare bans!
- Sec 1: No family removal!
- Sec 2: No cooperation with investigations!
- Sec 3: Subpoenas NOT respected!
- Sec 4: Police may not arrest!
- Sec 5: NO extradition!
I can’t stop laughing at this photo my friend posted of an iguana eating her guacamole at a resort in Cabo. It brings me such joy. And the people looking on with horror/laughter are the chef’s kiss.
@JosephBrassey It's not meant for that. If panic makes you scroll more (either digging for more panic material or trying to scroll past) and repost more, the algorithm is served. It's my least favourite platform because it feeds off our panic and anger the most efficiently.
The thing that gets me extra abt these pandemic policies is that they’re not even just segregating disabled ppl, they’re trying to erase all existence in public spaces of any kind.
In Germany, teaching the Holocaust is mandatory. It includes visits to concentration camp, museums, etc. They don’t shy away from their own ugly history. Yet the kids aren’t damaged; they’re strengthened, matured, humbled. US needs to do same re slavery. Not that complicated.
I am increasingly convinced that there are two types of people in the world: those who hear "everyone will get COVID eventually" as permission and those who understand that it's a threat.
Let's be really clear about what is happening at this stage in the pandemic: We are giving up on public health and embracing the privatization of health in ways that serve the able and young & write off anyone vulnerable. 1/
I don’t know why I have to keep explaining to people that lifting mask requirements on PUBLIC TRANSIT means high risk people cannot safely exist. If you want to take your mask off at TGI Fridays or something go off I guess but can you at least let us have PLACES WE NEED TO EXIST?
I worry that very soon wearing a mask will be seen as negativity/fear mongering & people will try to ban them. Folks want the ability to harm without feeling bad or being reminded of the harm. The responsibility of quieting that discomfort will fall on the people being cautious.
In 1959, Eugene Ionesco wrote the absurdist play Rhinoceros in which one by one, an entire town of people suddenly transform into rhinos. At first, people are horrified but as the contagion spreads, (almost) everyone comes to accept that turning into a rhinoceros is fine. 1/
