BLACK DAY FOR BANKERS |PROTEST | 27 SEPTEMBER
Calling bank officers and employees to work on a Sunday, 27 September, without the normal statutory notification under Negotiable Instruments Act, is more than an administrative measure - it sends a deeply disturbing message:
“when employees fight for their legitimate rights, their existing rights can simply be curtailed.”
We remain committed to the public and to the banking system. We will not allow anyone to portray our legitimate struggle as being against our customers or the public.
Therefore, those compelled to attend office on 27 September Sunday, are requested to register their peaceful and dignified protest:
WEAR BLACK DRESS…!!
WEAR A BLACK MASK…!!
The black mask is a reminder that our voice may be constrained, but our resolve cannot be silenced.
Let every branch see our protest.
Let every authority hear our message.
WE WILL NOT BUDGE.
WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED.
WE WILL STAND UNITED.
🤝 SOLIDARITY BEYOND SECTORS — WORKERS STAND TOGETHER
The Petroleum & Gas Workers’ Federation of India (PGWFI) extends its firm solidarity and support to bank employees and officers participating in the nationwide strike from 28–30 September 2026.
From the oil and gas sector to banking, workers across sectors face common concerns — work pressure, vacancies, outsourcing, workers’ rights and dignified working conditions.
🤝 When workers stand together, the collective voice grows stronger.
Long Live Workers’ Unity! ✊

✊ UFBU: GO AHEAD COMRADES — MARCH ON!
The latest UFBU Circular makes it clear: the strike call stands.
Despite discussions with IBA and efforts to find a mutually acceptable way forward, no concrete outcome has emerged on the key demands.
📢 28, 29 & 30 September — All India Bank Strike
The circular also calls for a massive mobilisation and urges members to stand united in the face of pressure and intimidation.

@DFS_India says Sunday, 27th Sept branch-opening is "to ensure genuine banking needs of the public are not adversely affected"
Fair question then: if it's genuinely for the public, why has the Govt not issued a single notification under Section 25, NI Act declaring 27th a working day?
Because it cannot. Section 25 lets the Govt only add holidays, it has no power to un-declare a Sunday.
What exists is an administrative letter asking branches to stay "operational." Nothing more. No cheque payment, no clearing, no dishonour has valid legal backing tomorrow and officers have been told nothing about this.
This isn't customer service. It's dragging bank officers to their branch on a strike-eve Sunday on a legally hollow order, while leaving them to answer for it alone if something goes wrong.

@the_hindu We requst the same support frm all the politicians and the public as the strike is against the indirect Govt attack on the public sectr nature of the banks. 5 day banking has already been agreed to by the Govt body, IBA, 29 months ago, but the Govt has not given its nod yet.
Keralam’s Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the three-day strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), which begins on September 28 in protest against the anti-worker policies of the Centre. Mr. Vijayan said the bank employees have been waging a bold struggle against the Central government’s covert moves to hand over the country’s public sector banks to corporate monopolies.

@prakashraaj Another movement of the bankers' majority trade unions against the Govt is in the offing, against the denial of the Govt's nod to their already agreed-upon 5-day workweek. Please support👍
The growing workloads in banks demand immediate action; the agreed 5-day week is essential for staff wellbeing and productivity. #5DayBankingNow#AIBOC@PMOIndia
Every 24x7 banking service has a banker behind it and a family waiting at home. We agreed to the 5-day week in March 2024 and accepted longer weekday hours. The regulator, the insurer and the Government all work 5 days.
Our demand is just. The delay is not.
#5DayBankingNow #AIBOC @PMOIndia
In light of growing workloads, the urgency for 5-day banking has never been clearer; implement it without further delay. #5DayBankingNow#AIBOC@PMOIndia
Bankers keep India connected 24×7.
But behind every transaction, target and deadline is a human being, with a family, responsibilities and a life beyond the branch.
A 5-day week was agreed in March 2024, with bankers accepting longer working hours from Monday to Friday.
The demand is reasonable. The commitment is proven. The delay is difficult to justify.
Implement 5-Day Banking now.
