A fish supper in Ballycastle now is £15.

It is fresh fish but £30 for 2 is eye opening.

I grabbed some frozen birds eye battered pollack and it is really nice. 4 in a box, £3. Have 2 each if you like, they are small on their own. If you have 2 it will equal fish from your chippy!

Beer battered chips from Mash Direct are top tier and cost just over £2. Or make your own for even less.

Harry Ramsden mushy peas are 50p from Home Bargains.

I can rustle up some curry sauce for about 50p.

Total?

£6

£3 each.

Versus £30 total and £15 each.

I am all for supporting local business but I can't hold out to these prices.

Lots of tourists coming through Ballycastle right now happy to pay the high price.

I bet the price comes down in winter when all the tourists are gone and only us locals remain.

Why was there no conscription in N.Ireland during the war?? Because in 1939 Nationalists marched on Belfast City Hall demonstrating against the introduction plus DeValera made a speech against its introduction around the same time.

@squinteratn The first time I went to the Grove cinema on the Shore Road, at the end of the film they played the National Anthem, what I noticed was that quite a few people got up and left before it was played! This was the mid 70s, but the biggest surprise was the fact that their was a bar.

The social insurance doesn’t cover future payments, it’s used for pensions now. If State pensions are higher in Ireland, I don’t see people accepting a two tier system?

This comment just shows how little you know about the country you supposedly live in. My children went to a Primary school in Coleraine and they all pronounce the letter H as a Haitch.

Only in the North of Ireland could the pronunciation of the letter H give away your school, your community, and half your life story. Same alphabet. Same street. One says “haitch”, one says “aitch”.
