"You just begin. You do the math. You solve one problem... and you solve the next one... and then the next. And If you solve enough problems, you get to come home."
social media is making biology so much more interesting 🥲
a humpback whale was photographed in Brazil in 2003. twenty two years later, the SAME whale was photographed in Australia. 15,100 kilometers apart. identified by its tail fin: unique as a fingerprint. longest confirmed distance between sightings of any humpback whale EVER. reported 6 DAYS back.
a second whale made the same crossing in the OTHER direction. and here’s what’s kinda cool: humpback whale songs spread culturally across ocean basins. these whales may be carrying songs from Brazil to Australia. they are cultural ambassadors between hemispheres 🥰
and nobody KNEW. nobody was comparing photos taken 22 years apart on opposite sides of the planet!
the only reason we found out is because a platform called Happy Whale lets citizen scientists upload tail photos. the discovery was made by matching two photos taken by two strangers on two continents two decades apart
@NickADobos@yacineMTB It was a bit of tongue in cheek. I didn’t want to dunk on you but I was honestly surprised by the statement. I don’t generally count the number of lines but if I am working on something I am reading EVERYTHING about the chain of execution and the surrounding scaffolding code.
Did you know that the .png format was created out of spite? Or that .jpeg just discards like half of the colours in your image because you won't notice?
To celebrate last week's launch, I published a chapter on image compression.

@parmstar@rayansadri@ripple_ventures Tell you more??? Lmao. How about giving the same money you give to American companies and not increasing the hoops when it comes to Canada
