Articles like this show both how eager local government are to look like they are taking steps to boost consumption and how ineffective these steps are. As the article suggests, the policies all involve boosting supply and convenience, but none involve boosting income and, hence, demand.
We are building our own defense tech company. Alex Karp, CEO of @PalantirTech, will become its first lead investor.
Our ambitious new project will strengthen Ukraine and help build a safer future for the entire world. More details to come.
Roman is on her way. 🚀
Years of work, extraordinary engineering, and one incredible launch.
Congratulations to the entire @NASA team and our partners who made this mission possible. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is about to open an entirely new window into our universe.
In October 1937, at the height of the Great Terror, Stalin's secret police was shooting roughly 1,500 Soviet citizens every day.
That same month, the founders of the London School of Economics published the second edition of their two-volume defense of Stalin's regime, Soviet Communism: A New Civilization.
The one thing they changed from the first edition was dropping the question mark. 🧵
@EricTopol Despite its obvious misuse during Covid, mRNA has tremendous promise for curing diseases.
Artificial RNA essentially makes curing diseases a software problem.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp opens up our second Sovereignty Bootcamp and explains what will happen if we fail to make our institutions healthier and stronger:
“We cannot have a society where all the value goes to 2,500 people sitting in Silicon Valley. That just will not work, and no one's going to put up with it.”
“You're going to get crazy fissures in society where basically the far right and the far left think the best way to advance America and the West is by blowing everything up that's ever worked."
“It's massively destructive. It will collapse our markets, and collapse our way of doing things.”
Elon Musk is prorably the most important tech person and entrepreneur in the world for our country. By shutting down Russia’s illegal use of Starlink on Ukrainian territory, @elonmusk and @SpaceX protected our air defense, saved our air force, and spared thousands of civilian lives. This is an invaluable contribution to our defense, and every Ukrainian is deeply grateful to him for it.

Still, as long as Beijing must finance economically non-viable projects, it's better to do so by explicitly taxing the rich, which won't much impact total demand, than by implicitly taxing the non-rich, which will. The problem comes when it runs out of financing options.
Today, many were shocked by yet another video of the drone “safari” Russians are carrying out against civilians in Kherson. A Russian drone deliberately hunted down a man selling vegetables and detonated right next to him. The Russians even admitted to the crime, showing zero regret and openly boasting about tormenting people. The man was wounded in the blast. Every single day, ordinary people in Kherson face these Russian "safaris."
The world must see this. It must see every piece of evidence that Russia has gone mad and that its soldiers take pleasure in killing and abusing civilians. Without pressure on Russia, the dismantling of its capacity for aggression, and real security guarantees, it is simply impossible to imagine the world being able to coexist with this evil. We must remain resolute in defending life. We must act and support life in ways that force Russia to seriously think about peace rather than expanding the range of its drones.
This is not just about Ukraine. Russia’s campaign against human life must be stopped here in Ukraine before it spreads further. Finland and Kazakhstan, the Baltic states and Poland, the countries of the South Caucasus, Romania, and Moldova—all should work together to ensure real security guarantees and bring Russia’s war to an end. Peace is needed, which requires cooperation among everyone in the world who truly values peace. Thank you to everyone standing with Ukraine!
@Jason What they’re doing won’t matter.
AI & robots will actually deliver the free goods & services that those thieves pretend to offer, while actually stealing from others.
Mamdani is a thief and a liar, plain and simple.
They smashed babies against trees and murdered nearly 2 million Cambodians in under 4 years chasing a pure agrarian communist utopia with no cities, no money, and no private property.
On April 17 1975, the Khmer Rouge rolled into Phnom Penh and within hours emptied the entire city, marching hospital patients and the elderly into the countryside on foot as they declared Year Zero and set out to erase every trace of the old society.
Anyone tied to the past became a target and wearing glasses alone could get you killed because it proved you could read, while doctors, teachers, engineers, and monks were executed as enemies of the revolution.
They turned a high school into a prison where roughly 20,000 people were tortured into confessing crimes that never happened, after which they were trucked to mass graves in the killing fields where executioners smashed infants against the killing tree to save bullets.
But they never achieved a classless utopia so it wasn’t like real communism.
Zakaria: “Free societies often look weakest in the midst of tech upheaval because they move slowly and argue constantly. Yet over time they have usually adapted better than autocracies precisely because they can learn, correct mistakes and change course.” https://t.co/Jgah0ZF84X
