Outrage Over FG N8.05BN Budget for Churches and Mosques

Nigeria are outraged over the discrepancies In the 2026 budget which includes ₦8.05 billion for churches and mosques.

Public accountability organisation “Tracka” revealed ₦1.91 billion for seven church projects and ₦6.14 billion for fifty-two mosque projects buried inside ministries that have nothing to do with religion.

Speaking further on the planned NYSC reform, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, revealed that the NYSC orientation camp would be restructured into three phases:

- The first two weeks will focus on civic responsibility, national values, and leadership development.
- The next two weeks will cover career mapping, financial literacy, business planning, and access to finance.
- The final two weeks will provide specialised training based on each corps member’s chosen career stream.

Under the new framework, corps members will select one of the newly created 11 specialised streams upon registration and will receive specialised training throughout the orientation programme in preparation for future employment and national service.

The 11 specialised streams are: Agric Corps, Medical Corps, Education Corps, Tech and Digital Corps, Legal Corps, Public Service Corps, Infrastructure Corps, Green Corps, Enterprise Corps, Creative Economy Corps, and Paramilitary and Security Corps.

She added that the specialised streams will equip graduates with practical skills tailored to their academic backgrounds, career interests, and the country’s workforce needs.

Usman noted that the reforms also review deployment procedures, including how corps members are posted across states, with greater consideration for prevailing security realities.

The distinguished senior officer was decorated with the rank of Lieutenant General by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede. Following his promotion, the seasoned officer will be proceeding on retirement after 35 years of meritorious military service.

I join my brothers and sisters to strongly protest the use of the Hijab (Niqab) in an upcoming Nigerian movie produced by one Ms. Bolanle Ayo. The Hijab is an outfit deeply attributed to Muslim women that symbolizes respect, modesty, and religious devotion. And, I believe it should not be used as a mere costume in a movie, especially when the scenes it portrays are clearly associated with negative moral vices.

Using the Hijab in such scenes is a profound disrespect to our mothers, sisters, and daughters. This garment is a symbol of respect, and portraying it in a manner that suggests otherwise is offensive to those who wear it for religious purposes.

The producers of this movie should have considered alternative costumes, such as balaclavas or masks, for such scenes. For us, the Hijab (Niqab) is not worn by our women to hide their identity to commit crimes but to respect, follow, and abide by the teachings of our religion.

I join well-meaning Nigerians in calling on the producers of this movie to respect our religion and remove all the scenes where the Hijab is portrayed negatively. We also urge the National Film and Video Censors Board (@nfvcbng) to censor these hurtful scenes to protect the dignity of those who wear the Hijab.

We hope that our concerns will be addressed promptly and appropriately.

PRESS STATEMENT

My attention has been drawn to a viral video circulating on all social media platforms alleging that my daughter was bullied or assaulted. For the records, the young girl in the video is not my daughter, I do not know her, nor do I have any of my children studying in that school.

Whilst the young girl in the video showed extreme decorum and restraint (and should be commended), if it were any of my children, the scenario would not go without a fight in exercise of self defense

However, I have myself reported the incident to law enforcement because it could have been anybody’s daughter, since violence and bullying is not acceptable in our society.

I was equally told by someone who thought she was my daughter and acted before chatting me, by contacting the so-called school and that the school claimed both girls are minors and therefore should be treated as such. If a school can say that, you can imagine what they are teaching the students.

The floated Naira is holding steady at ₦1500. It is obvious that the actions taken against Binance, along with #GrowNairaBuyNaija, are yielding and will keep yielding results. The NIN and BVN account linkage will also have a positive effect. What I find curious is that some people appear to have more sympathy for Binance than for Nigeria and the Naira. In any case, if you want the floated Naira to rise, then:

No amount of protest can bring down the exchange rate of the Naira from ₦1600 to $1. Even if Tinubu returns to Nigeria and 130 million Nigerians still spend $20 million daily on MTN, Airtel and DSTV, the Naira will continue to fall. That money is going to South Africa and India. Meanwhile, nothing is coming from there to us. This is not about gragra. Our typical Nigerian aggressiveness will not work here. There is only one solution.
