π³π¬ DEMOCRACY DAY 2026
As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, the National Association of University Students (NAUS) Convention Planning Committee (CPC) joins millions of Nigerians in celebrating the enduring values of democracy, participation, accountability, and the power of the people's voice.
For us as student leaders and stakeholders, this day serves as a reminder that democracy thrives when citizens are actively engaged in shaping the institutions that represent them. With the countdown to the convention well underway, we encourage all delegates, aspirants, student leaders, stakeholders, and members of the university community to remain committed to the principles of fairness, respect, issue-based engagement, and democratic participation.

We are clear and have a clear mandate to protect and defend our Organization. We are used to their antics against the organization and as usual , They have failed again.

PRESS STATEMENT
VISIT TO OLOYE SUNDAY IGBOHO ON THE CONTINUED HOSTAGE SITUATION OF ABDUCTED STUDENTS AND TEACHERS IN ORIIRE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OYO STATE, AND EXPLORATION OF AREAS OF COLLABORATION WITH IRU EKUN LOCAL SECURITY OUTFITS
As part of the ongoing efforts to forestall further occurrences of the heinous incident that occurred in Oriire Local Government and to strengthen our local security outfits,, I led a delegation of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to meet with Oloye Sunday Igboho, the leader of the Iru Ekun local security outfit.
As part of our recommendations to engage vetted local volunteers, such as we have had in the past, including former militia members, local hunters, and experienced community security volunteers who have expressed willingness to assist government and communities, the meeting with Oloye Sunday Igboho became crucial for documentation and record purposes in local security operations.
Addressing him, I expressed the concerns of teeming Nigerian students and how the heinous abduction of our students and teachers in Oriire Local Government has weighed heavily on us in grief. Additionally, I intimated him that our decision to visit him is rooted in his advocacy for local security outfits to support government efforts in tackling insecurity.
In my address, I noted that we are deeply disturbed and committed to exploring every possible means to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers, while measures are put in place to forestall further occurrences.
In his response, he commended the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for not being partisan and for being emphatic in our demand for the immediate rescue and safe return of our students and teachers. He added that we are truly the voice and foremost organization with the capacity to hold the government accountable. He further lauded the leadership of NANS for its proactiveness and staunch commitment to ensuring that these abducted students and teachers are rescued immediately, while also working to prevent any future occurrences.
He also lamented the situation, stressing that this is not a time for politics but a trying moment in our history, during which every patriotic citizen must rise to the occasion. Furthermore, he appealed to the leadership of NANS, as a pressure group and a voice that resonates powerfully across the country, not to grow weary in this quest.
Going forward, as the President of NANS, the apex umbrella body unifying all student structures in the country and in the diaspora, as well as the largest Black studentsβ movement and youth organization in the world, I appeal to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to, as part of measures to secure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers, equip the Iru Ekun local security outfits.
Let it be unequivocally stated that we shall not compromise in our quest to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Viva Aluta!
Thank you.
Yours in solidarity,
Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS

PRESS RELEASE β¦..
Earlier today, after leading all structures of NANS to a meeting with the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to present our position and recommendations on the immediate rescue and safe return of the students and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, we proceeded to Oriire Local Government as scheduled to meet with the families of the victims and visit the schools where this heinous act was perpetrated.
En route to Oriire Local Government, we made a stop at a Conoil Filling Station in Bodija. While refueling more than 40 vehicles in my entourage, I observed a group of unruly individuals who, without provocation, aggressively approached members of our delegation, apparently because we did not join their protest.
I addressed the students in my entourage to ignore their provocation. I made it clear that, as an organization, our primary mandate at that moment was to proceed to Oriire Local Government Area to visit the families of the victims and the schools where this unfortunate incident occurred. I explained that we are an ideology-driven organization and that every organization operates according to its own modus operandi.
However, before I could turn my back, a mob came at us, and in a fierce manner, the Aluta Forces on the ground repelled them. It was at that point that I realized that these unruly individuals were members of the "Take It Back Movement." Let me be clear: NANS, as an organization, has a long history of protests and advocacy. However, any attempt by the "Take It Back" Movement to incite, spite or provoke members of our organization, or to harass NANS comrades, will be met with fierce resistance. We have a history of being brotherly to all organizations, but we will not tolerate any attack on our organization. If there is any recurrence of what we witnessed today, it will be met with the same fierce resistance.
It is important to note that, shortly before this moment, we had earlier participated in a peaceful protest alongside the National Union of Teachers(NUT) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chapters of Oyo State, without any form of fracas, as our agitations remain the same and our demands are collectively aligned.
Going forward, I call on the security agencies to investigate the activities of the "Take It Back Movement." Individuals should not be allowed to cause public disorder under the guise of activism.
In the foregoing, as President of NANS, I have sworn to protect the integrity of the organization. Henceforth, any attack or act of disparagement against the organization will be met with fierce resistance. As an organization, we will repel any such attack going forward.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
NANS PRESIDENT
