You need to teach her the clear difference between what is obligatory and what is voluntary.

First of all, reciting the Quran outside of Salah is a highly rewarded voluntary act. Fulfilling household responsibilities and obeying the reasonable instructions of a guardian are obligations.

In Islam, a voluntary act is never allowed to override an obligation. When she tries to play the religion card by saying "But reciting the Quran is good," your direct response should be that doing a good deed at the wrong time disrupts the balance Allah placed in our lives.

Again, using the Book of Allah as a shield to dodge chores is a subtle form of spiritual manipulation. You must not fall for it or feel guilty for stopping her.

Furthermore, standing near a pot of boiling soup with the physical Mushaf while children are playing loudly shows a complete lack of Adab towards the Quran.

The Mushaf demands a clean, focused, and safe environment. If it gets stained with soup because she was trying to avoid kitchen work, that is a disrespect to the words of Allah.

Sit her down and explain that Islam is a religion of structure and discipline. When it is time to work, she must drop the book and work. The Quran will be waiting for her when her chores are complete. You are building her character for the real world, so you need to be very firm.
