Here’s a link to the article I mentioned. Staring a movement by growing moss with jute net- 😉

Just published! Our new global meta-analysis to tease apart +/- effects of biocrusts on plant performance. Led by @carrie_havrilla, great collab w @MatthewBowker1 @DJ_Eldridge @faistlab @FerrenbergLab and others. @JEcology#biocrust Check it out! https://t.co/oiWqYRuMCJ
Great start to @biocrust4 discussing how global change will effect biocrusts. Looking forward to more talks and learning more about these fascinating ecosystems.
After a warm welcome from @DJ_Eldridge the first day of @biocrust4 was so exciting that I forgot to tweet till now. So many great talks. Personal favs were by @helijuottonen, @KrstinaYoung, Christina Rengifo-Faiffer from the @MatthewBowker1 lab, & Angela Lafuente #WomenInScience
Take a look at these incredible microbial communities, termed biocrust, that physically hold our sand onto the Earth. The green microbes are Cyanobacteria that, in addition to securing soil particles, fix carbon dioxide and nitrogen to support life in deserts!🦠🏜️
WOW! What a response. With submissions from the Arctic to the Antarctic and from the tropics to the driest of deserts, hot and cold, BIOCRUST4 is going to be amazing! We look forward to seeing everyone there - make sure you look into booking accommodation and tours soon.

A reminder to get your BIOCRUST abstracts in by the 28th of February. Only two days to go! Need an extension? Have a question? Please get in touch and we will endeavour to accommodate your attendance.
Looking forward to hearing from you all!
New paper from my lab, "Biological soil crusts inhibit seed germination in a temperate pine barren ecosystem", in @PLOSONE.
#Biocrusts are not so well known in temperate climates like New York. But they are here!

As per today the project has gathered field data and sampled soils from more than 320 field sites from 25 countries in six continents! We are making good progress with lab analyses and aim to start exploring the data by next summer. Stay tuned!
