On utilizing mental health resources that could disqualify of my dreams of becoming an astronaut.

So cool! Students in @smithcollege plant ecology class this AM observed nitrogen-fixing #Nostoc#cyanobacteria in the dark, circular ‘slime cavities’ of #hornwort#Anthoceros. Cavity is a low-oxygen space where bacterial #nitrogenase can fix N from air to share w/ plant!
Just came from the coolest soil art exhibit by the Wild Pigment Project! Soils are so beautiful, and I love the many ways these artists interwove science, place, culture, climate into this beautiful work 💙
What we observe everyday in our lab reminds us: Mycorrhizal fungi are not just passive conduits to assist plants. Fungi are powerful actors in their own right, evolving trade strategies over hundreds of millions of yrs.

The lovely Sonoran spider lily (Hymenocallis sonorensis) can be found along streams and valleys in Sonora, Mexico. They produce these delicate white flowers in the summer.
Look out for them at the Wildflower trail!

Happy world bee day! Did you know the vast majority of bees in the world nest alone on the ground (no hive, queen or workers). Many species, like these Diadasia, build nests in large aggregations I like to call bee neighborhoods
