@eweissunburied@SJSU@mercnews@EastBayTimes @SJSUNewsroom Good, we should not be valuing "science" over the humanity of others. Science without ethics is a monstrosity that we have seen time and time again. Allow their ancestors to make the decision about where their remains should be.
@RicoScience IDK Anyone who is currently without work and has a certificate, but UConn's marine science dept has a scientific diving training program, so there might be graduating students there who would be eligible if you're looking to hire divers! (They have a whole diving club.)
Pro-tip to undergrads that live in residential housing that is off of a main campus (i.e. where non-students live): remember other people need sleep and have responsibilities, you can't be having 50 person parties in the street at midnight on a Thursday.
When we got past July, I thought, "Oh thank God the hottest part of the year here is over."
Well, apparently Montreal wanted Summer 2: Electric Boogaloo and its been 30C (86F) in my apartment for like 2 weeks.😵💫☠️
Academia has made some of us forget where we came from. Working in an elitist space doesn't mean you have to forget people who will never step foot on your campus. We were not given our gifts to hoard academic glory. These gifts aren't for us.

@KristaLerista @drama_science Wow this thread is so upsetting and disheartening. It makes my blood boil for you. Academia truly enables such discrimination and abuse with virtually no recourse. These attitudes are such a stain on science.
Group of law professors at @mcgillu submit letter to McGill Principal, Provost & Board of Governors setting our conclusions that: 1) McGill has the legal authority to require proof of vaccination; 2) doing so is in accord with Quebec law; 1/2
@MaryBun10 Yes! The pandemic definitely reframed how I felt being blocked from seeing my family (intl student). I concluded that a few years may not be 'a lot' but so much can change. Going into the job market, I am only seriously looking at jobs that allow me to prioritize my health+family
I just imagine another life when my mom would've felt enabled to do science - she probably would've loved geology.
So grateful that she raised me surrounded by science and natural history. No interest was ever off limits, and no course of study was ever a bad one in her eyes.
I just find it deeply amusing that my mom is sending me full descriptions of these rocks and where they come from. And I'm like "I like the pointy, shiny one!" Such pedestrian comments 😂
My mom went to her first rock and mineral show last weekend since the pandemic and bought so many rocks, and she's sending me all the pictures of them now. 🥺
She's so happy with her rocks lmao
In a twist of fate, I do not share her interest in rocks (in high school I found that part about rocks agonizing, to the point where I was relieved to memorize the periodic table).
So, I can't provide any good feedback. I'm just sitting here being like "Oh thats nice and pointy"
Nearing the end of writing my thesis and I honestly didn't find the writing part too laborious.
Probably since my average email is practically a thesis because I have an insurmountable level of anxiety and over explain everything.
I basically just channeled that to my thesis
