When it's hard to explain
Japan has withstood Omicron's rise to dominance with very few cases, deaths, boosters to date, 78% vaccinated
While South Korea, like Japan, masking and distancing, 82% vaccinated, high use of boosters, had a significant outbreak

🧵 There are a couple of different approaches to using bioinformatics software:
- web based tools (or gui - graphical user interface)
- command line tools
- programming languages
There are advantages and disadvantages for each of them.

With Omicron & new variants, I think in India we are missing an opportunity to establish systematic widespread environmental/wastewater surveillance. We can use lessons from polio surveillance on selection of location. Much lab standardization needed but guaranteed worthwhile.

Finally I see an organoid paper discussing epithelial cell polarity and microbial sensing, beyond that, microbial product rather than microbe contact is sufficient to elicit a mucosal immune response

I recently learned that the animations we have prepared for concepts in microbial 'omics ARE ACTUALLY used by others for teaching.
So I added two more animations to the list with PPTX files, including this one to highlight differences between amplicon vs shotgun sequencing 😇

I know I've posted basically this screenshot before, but as of this morning #julialang master fully bootstraps on #AppleSilicon in default configuration with no patches or disabled stdlibs. Only possible due to relentless sleuthing by @staticfloat and @curtisvogt.
