(AFPPD Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development)

The world needs to hear this “Nepal does not need sympathy; Nepal demands climate justice.”
I have proposed AFPPD to make a major declaration and call upon parliamentarians of all member countries to make climate change and climate justice a major agenda in their respective national parliaments.
I represented Nepal at the AFPPD (Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development) conference in Malaysia and raised voice on climate justice.
The Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asian regional conference of the AFPPD (Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development) brought together parliamentarians from 30 countries, along with honorable representatives, ministers and distinguished personalities, more than 100s of who had gathered in Malaysia to discuss some major issues of the world. Nepal chaired a session on the Care Economy, which I chaired on behalf of Nepal.
And on Climate change session, I clearly raised the issues of climate justice, compensation, the Loss and Damage Fund, DebtRelief, technology transfer and climate resilience.
Nepal’s contribution to climate change is negligible yet the consequences it suffers is unmeasurable. Nepal has been protecting the Himalayas, glaciers, forests, rivers and the overall Himalayan ecosystem since generations for the benefit of the entire world. I also presented the painful reality of Nepal’s current situation with facts and figures and a video showing the impacts of the Bhote Koshi flash floods.
Thousands of people have lost their lives, billions of rupees worth of damage has been incurred, roads, bridges, homes, schools, health institutions and other physical infrastructure built over decades can be destroyed within minutes. A country like Nepal cannot repeatedly rebuild such infrastructure by taking loans from the international community.
I also exposed the bitter reality that funding has been cut for some dedicated programmes and funds related to natural disaster and risk monitoring in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region, such as SERVIR-HKH. Meanwhile i extended gratitude to those countries who stood up in support with relief and rescue operarions for Nepal.
Standing here today at the Trishuli River, where the floods have left behind unimaginable loss..broken homes, broken families, and lives changed forever. Nepal is not alone. I stand with its people, and I will do everything I can to bring hope, rebuild homes, and help families begin again. 🇳🇵❤️
