I had the pleasure of attending the DSA Fund's How We Win conference in September for democratic socialist electeds, staff, and DSA members on socialists in office committees. Here are some thoughts on the conference, and the place we find ourselves.
Without the development of a coherent program and coordinated plan, the US socialist movement will be just a series of unconnected local projects that is no match for its opponents. https://t.co/biOW8Rs90L
Seems there is a difference between “thinking about this serious problem” and encouraging your 10s of thousands of followers to not vote for the party that won’t immediately end whatever democracy we have, scale up deportations, crush the NLRB, etc. But I guess we disagree.
someone needs to take a bit of time away from the “big mean internet” (though I guess if you’ve committed to using your edgelord politics to sell your book maybe you do just have to lean in all the way)
the “but the arena isn’t being built in Chinatown” line that’s become so popular with supporters of the Sixers’ new arena says everything you need to know about those supporters: they haven’t spent enough time in Philadelphia to understand the ridiculousness of their argument
Most law students go in wanting to do good with their lives! Being saddled with 100s of thousands of debt is one of many reasons that career trajectories often don’t reflect that desire.
So many solutions and none of them is capping tuition. No reason law school should cost as much as medical school, or anywhere close to the 60k+ per year that’s often charged. It’s a policy choice made by the legal academy that drives young lawyers to mercenary work at big firms.
The basic dynamic with Biden is this: there’s a TikTok-esque meme that he’s senile. The GOP has worked constantly to reinforce that meme. The political media, rather than reporting out the truth of the meme, report on its existence and prevalence, reinforcing it.
Hi, I’m a Black, queer Marxist-Leninist-Maoist that also works within the revolutionary Black Radical Tradition.
Marxists don’t support prosecutors under the auspices of “making it easier to organize”, nor do they put stock in elections for the chief executive of imperialism. Marxists know that revolution is the violent overthrow of one class by another, because the ruling class will not allow their control to be voted, ruled, or legislated away. You are a radical liberal that fancies themselves a Marxist. Study what Black theoreticians such as George Jackson have to say and quit working on vibes, it’s embarrassing you!
Hope this helps!
