@JoyceCarolOates it’s difficult to say how power was amassed, given how little late bronze age writing remains and how what remains is almost purely bookkeeping.
it’s definitely worth noting that such centralized, exclusive power birthed centuries of squalor and bitterness towards the past tho.
@JoyceCarolOates Agamemnon is, archetypally, that singular leader blown up to its biggest and most brash of proportions. he’s almost a parodic figure in the Iliad because the story originated in the Dark Ages, a distinctly more communal time. he’s a representative of the old world vs the new.
@JoyceCarolOates realistic to us, but in the late bronze age, ‘cities’ were structured around one dominant home atop a hill with one leader who was responsible for distributing all goods, domestic or traded, to the townfolk. our surviving written records of the age are their storage receipts.
if you’re more interested in the language of ideology than putting it into practice, and if you’re unwilling to recognize a positive impact when you see it, then i don’t think you have your priorities in order.
i think zohran’s on the right path with this sort of thing. the word ‘socialism’ is deeply unpopular, but socialist policy is widely popular. it doesn’t matter if he champions the name and label - is he championing good policy? is he putting the working class first?
Zohran Mamdani: “Democrats have been branded as socialists for longer than I can remember. I remember President Obama being called a socialist almost every single day by Republicans and it didn’t stop him from delivering not just on his first term but his second term. People are hungry for a vision of the Democratic Party that has more to do with the New Deal than the raw deal that so many Americans have been forced to accept”
most of my heat is for centrists and right wing dems, but in this case, if you’re a communist or a socialist, why are you running victory laps over this? zohran is pushing positive policy and, while not drastically, is nonetheless pushing the overton window to the left.
Even if it was drugs, having, using, or selling drugs is not grounds for being executed. The fact that ICE and cops can use the lie of someone supposedly having drugs to justify a murder says so much about what our society accepts as normal.
I think we should hear it directly from @HaleyforMI. I have never once heard her defend her Muslim or Arab constituents against these kinds of othering and I would like to at least hear it directly from her. We deserve to know that she actually cares.
apart from this being a really out of pocket thing to say to someone, a quick scroll down this dude’s acc shows endless shilling and even a defense of that stevens endorsement about el-sayed and “arabic music”
stevens campaign and supporters have made this race truly ugly
Ryan I know you have trouble telling women apart because you don’t respect them but there’s a difference between a candidate that doesn’t disclose how they make money and a consultant who works for a candidate.
i love that twitter started defaulting me to the suggested tweets tab and then does this when i switch to people i actually follow. what a functional webbed site. elon musk is a genuis, certainly, and not the world's richest cro-magnon charlatan.
No person would undergo a full transition, be in a body and identity they feel out of place in, and incur the vitriol of millions and millions, for the sole purpose of being better at a sport. Ever.
If I see that “scenario” 1 more time like it’s a plausible thing Imma lose it
