Inspiration

The psalmist gives us many examples of crying out to God for help and protection. In your own life, you should seek God when you are in trouble. He is always near. He is able to rescue you and give you rest. He can defeat your enemies and protect you. All you need to do is call upon Him and trust that He will give you the strength you need to overcome.

Prayer

Dear God, hear my prayer and meet me in the midst of this troubling situation. I need Your help. Come near to me and give me the strength I need to overcome. Inspiration

Without notice, perhaps unaware, we may never know what our Lord may have in store for us. He may like Moses, call upon us at any moment to do his bidding, or to prove our devotion. We should therefore always be ready, as a hunter lies in wait. Many might sympathize with the feeling common in today's society of either waiting for or expecting a phone call. That is, in essence, how our heart might be poised, waiting on and longing for the command of the Lord.

Inspiration

This passage in Peter shows up nicely an idea that has been raised many times by Christ before, that the true value of a man is measured not by what he has, but by what he may do without. When all is burned up, when all possessions and vainglories are dissolved, when all but our body remains, who amongst us can truly claim to be able find comfort only in God? Who amongst us, could claim still, to be able to stand before the Lord, thankful and glad? The question thrown up by Peter is not a command to cast off our worldly goods and comfort, but rather it is a challenge to Christians, to challenge us to look within ourselves and ask who we truly are, and what is truly necessary in front of our Lord.

Prayer

Lord I stand before you, cleansed of all possessions. Naked I pray Lord, that my soul still remains pure and worthy of your paradise. Inspiration

We will face hard times. As Christians, we will be persecuted. However, we have no reason to be ashamed of our sufferings because they do not define us. We have placed our trust in Jesus Christ and believe we will join together with Him when He returns. Our eternal hope is founded in this promise; therefore, we are able to bear all things.

Prayer

Dear God, while I am going through this hardship, help me to cling to Your promises. I know the only way I will be able to face these difficulties is by placing my trust in You. You give me strength. Inspiration

Between the lines of thousands of verses within the Bible, one may find the joy and exultation of celebrating the name of the Lord. Ours is not as some might claim, a God of pure vengeance. He is as a Father unto us, endowing us with the gift of light, love, and even laughter. David's Psalms particularly details this joy, of celebration, recommending we sing our thanks and praises to our God in whatever manner we see fit. In David's time, literally singing was a popular activity, owing to how affordable it was. Whilst this method is still available to all –even the tone deaf-, many more ways of praising his name is open to us today, 'singing' here need not be literal; what matters is the sentiment.

Inspiration

Looking back there may seem to be mistakes and sins we've committed we may never be forgiven for. Even if, somehow, one is absolved by others, the shame of having committed them may cause such intense guilt that it turns to self-hatred, of feeling unworthy in the eyes of others. Yet, in front of the eyes of our Heavenly Father, we were and always will be naked. Our nature is sin, whilst Gods' is forgiveness. We cannot hide our misdeeds from Him; we can only be forgiven in confessing them. Only if we have the courage to trust in the mercy of our Lord, in admitting to our darkest wrongs, can we be made pure again.

Prayer

Merciful Father, who sees all that dwells within the heart, please wash my body of its scarlet sins, so that I may become pure as snow. Inspiration

As devotees to Christ, it is important to remember we walk on this earth as representatives for Him. For people who do not yet know His name, or are skeptical, be good in all you do, and in all you meet. Understand that your actions have the power to convert, or turn others away. Let them not attach negative connotations unto the Christian faith through seeing in you a bad example, but rather let them see your joy for God, your strength and character. Let them see that this is the only way to truly rejoice in life, and to find salvation.

Inspiration

Today, temptation and the false path is often confused with salvation, which comes in many forms and guises. This 'salvation' may for some include the diversions of drugs, sex, idolatries, consumption, or in the form of false prophets offering quick fixes. Often, the worst perpetrator may even be ourselves once we forget God is in the driving seat. Thus, it is only through Christ's divination that we may understand true and everlasting salvation in the eyes of our heavenly father. It is only with our faith in the Lord, and not in oneself or other false prophets, that we may find grace.

Prayer

Our Lord in Heaven, hallowed be thy name, and hallowed be the sacrament between man and your majesty. Inspiration

It is never too late to turn back to the Lord, to see His light. There is almost nothing in this world more beautiful, more memorable as ministers than seeing His children admitting into the faith and finding their salvation, to see this very illumination of Gods grace upon their faces. Inspiration

I constantly compare myself to Jesus Christ. Although I think that it is a good thing to contemplate how you live and compare it to Christ, it can also be very difficult. Jesus is the Son of God. It would be impossible for us to ever be as good as him because he was created without flaws. God sent him to earth as a mortal man, as a sinner, so that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5: 21) It is an impossible standard to reach, but is there any other person that you would rather be more similar to?

there be no confusion; Christ was not a typical son as we understand it because He was not distinct from His Father. There comes a time in every normal fathers' life where He needs to be able to let His children go -often times as they reach adulthood. This was not so for our Almighty Lord, since Christ was simply His word made flesh, the truth of God's message given a face. So whilst we might call Jesus God's 'son', we would do well to be reminded that this was not a typical relationship, but rather an image of our Lord, the embodiment of our salvation, the Father that was also the Son, bonded through the Holy Spirit.

I honestly believe that the world is in a state of crisis right now. There are more and more people turning away from God, and because of this, the hero that has sustained peace and love for thousands of years does not have the same reach that he once did. There is a hero vacuum, and people are looking for other places to live vicariously, wishing that they could be more like a superhero or a celebrity. We should all already have our superhero. He lived and died for our sins; he bore a cross in shame; he sits at the right hand of his Father, God in heaven. Do not look for other heroes when the mightiest of all already exists!

Jesus, my hero and savior, why have I ever looked at other sources for motivation? Forgive me for this transgression. I am weak and did not fully think through my actions, unlike the actions of Christ. Precious Jesus, you knew the suffering and shame that you would endure on the cross, and you were still willing to bear it so that I could live. With this prayer I shall honor your suffering. Inspiration

Stand up for the oppressed, this is the message of this passage. Defend those who are oppressed, downtrodden, even if they are without our Heavenly Father. Think back to many historical events, from the slaves of Egypt becoming the chosen people, to the abolition of slavery, or the horrors committed in world wars or in the name of Empires. Our world is weighed down by immeasurable suffering. Be not on the wrong side of history, be not on the side of the oppressor, but seek to help those of God's children who have no or little voice, little or no hope.

All of us have experienced severe tests of our faith. Many Christians have also had to endure persecution for their beliefs. Inspiration

Wickedness and anxiety can be crippling for any person, and fear is the primary cause of it: fear of meeting others, failure, not living up to expectations, saying the wrong thing, and death. God loves us. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. " (2 Timothy 1:7) With God ever behind us, our anxieties can melt away. Our fear shall be changed to love. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear. " (1 John 4:18) Believe in God, for all things are possible through him!

Inspiration

Contextually, this passage refers to God's promised people, who were lead through the River Jordan unto Israel. Though these may have been His chosen people, there still existed many enemies, jealous and willfully ignorant of God's message. It was these people, who could not out of their own arrogance put down their false idols who ended up quaking with fear at God's power. It was only those, the faithful, who remained unafraid.

God on high, God Almighty! I hear Your name but am not afraid, for I know with belief in You on my side, I am one of Your chooosing. I must admit that in times of trouble I have demanded that God show me a sign, talk to me, anything to reinforce my faith in him. What an ego I have! Inspiration

As mentioned in previous verses, the motif of our flesh or material world coming to pass whilst the soul lives on is a common one. It serves to illustrate one of the most sacred of our doctrines, that the spirit is and belongs to God in everlasting life. Even Christ Himself, perhaps the most extreme example, embodied this for all to see. His flesh was torn, ripped, nailed, whipped, tortured and bruised, yet after the third day He rose again, and eventually entered up into heaven to sit on the right hand of God. Through Him, our soul lives on, the body may fail or break, but our spirit is limitless.

My God and my Father, and to the Holy Messiah, I give thanks and praise Your name. May our spirits be lifted into Your Heavenly Kingdom and reside amongst the angels at the foot of Your throne. Inspiration

One of the most popular passages in the Bible at weddings, this verse explains that love cannot be self-seeking: love is about other people. Think about it: if your loving actions are done with others in mind, loving your neighbors as yourself and even your enemies, how easy would it be to love yourself? It is when we hold hate in our heart that evil flows out. It isn't always easy to control our own egos and not demand attention for our good deeds, but is the love that we spread and feel for ourselves after not enough? It surely is enough.

Infinitely loving God, I will praise you with all of my heart for all of my days. Assist me in my struggles with selfishness, O Lord, so that I can truly love the people around me that need it most.
