Under Section 3(1)(c) of Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, Cap. 97, personal data collected, processed, used or held should be 𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭, and not 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 or 𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧?
Organizations should only collect the personal data they genuinely need for a specific purpose not simply because it might be useful later.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞: If you're subscribing to a newsletter, your email address may be enough. Asking for your National ID number or next of kin without a clear justification may be excessive.

Collect only what is necessary. Nothing more.

From tourist registers and research permits to patrol GPS data and staff records, rangers handle sensitive personal data every day. These sessions will equip frontline teams with knowledge and tools to safeguard that data, prevent breaches, and build trust with visitors and surrounding communities.

As we work towards a Uganda where data protection and privacy are understood, practiced and observed by all, our team is currently delivering these awareness sessions across game parks in Northern and Western Uganda, helping strengthen responsible data handling in conservation efforts for generations to come. #PersonalDataisPrivate #DataPrivacyUG

Last week, we participated in a stakeholder engagement organised by the @lgrb_uganda, where we delivered a presentation on data protection and privacy compliance obligations applicable to operators in Uganda's gaming sector.

We discussed key requirements under the Data Protection and Privacy Act Cap. 97, including lawful processing of personal data, protection of data subject rights, implementation of appropriate security safeguards, and the importance of accountability in personal data handling.

The EAC recorded strong trade growth in the first quarter of 2026, with total trade rising by 30.7% to US$46.3 billion. Export earnings grew faster than imports, driving the region’s trade surplus to US$1.6 billion.

Africa remained the EAC’s largest trading partner, while trade with SADC continued to show strong growth.

Today, I take on the mandate of Minister of ICT and National Guidance, I do so with humility and a clear sense of duty.
I thank H.E. @KagutaMuseveni for the trust. To the staff of the Ministry, thank you for the work done so far. I come not to replace, but to build.

My focus will be 3-fold:

Digital Transformation where we shall accelerate e-government, broadband access and ICT as a driver of jobs for our youth.

Cybersecurity and Data Protection. We need to make Uganda’s digital space safe and trusted for citizens and investors.

National Guidance. We shall use ICT to unite, inform and mobilize Ugandans around our shared values and development agenda.

I pledge to serve with integrity, consult widely and deliver results
