DPI in Action at #IFF2026: Unlocking Agriculture, Credit and Cross Border Trade Through Interoperable Systems
One important idea that came out of todayโs roundtable at the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026 is that interoperability is not only a technology issue. It is also about markets, trust, and the standards that allow systems to work together.
As @antale , the CEO of @rwictchamber explained, many innovators building solutions for farmers often find themselves starting from the same point again and again. They collect the same data and try to solve challenges that others may already have worked on. The real problem is not that technology is missing, but that there are no common standards that allow systems to communicate and build on each other.
In many ecosystems, useful data already exists through cooperatives and public platforms. However, systems are still developed separately, which keeps information and services disconnected.
Some reflections from the discussion really stood out.
Technology alone is not the problem, and it is not the only solution either, as @eloicyusa , the Head of Digital&Financial Market Infrastructure at @AFRwanda shared.
From the perspective of @GomeraM, the Resident Representative at UNDP South Africa, there can be no real conversation about credit or finance if there is no clear way to deliver those services to people.
Oswell Kahonde, the Head of Africa Region at @BetterThan_Cash also reminded us that farmers are not only looking for credit. What they truly want is broader access to financial services that can support their lives and businesses.
@GomeraM , the Resident Representative at UNDP South Africa also emphasized that the starting point should always be trust and real value for the user. When that exists, the technology can follow.
Another important question raised by Parul Seth Khanna, the co-founder & Director at Universal Pensions Pte Ltd, was simple but powerful: when we talk about interoperability, we also need to ask who it is meant to serve.
The main takeaway from the discussion is clear. If we want to unlock agriculture, improve access to credit, and support cross border trade, we need to move away from isolated systems and start building ecosystems that work together. This means shared standards, trusted data, and strong collaboration between the public and private sectors.
To conclude, interoperability is not just a technical idea. It is a key foundation for building inclusive digital economies.

On the sidelines of #IFF2026, Minister of State @yves_Iradukunda held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Zach Munyi, Director of Government Affairs at Visa, and Mr. Victor Makere, Visa Country Manager overseeing operations in Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda, to discuss collaboration in Rwandaโs financial ecosystem.
Minister @MusoniPaula met with Mr. Taylor Downs, CEO of @openfn , on the sidelines of #IFF2026 to discuss opportunities to leverage open-source platforms and AI to improve interoperability between government systems and enhance the delivery of public services.
This morning at the launch of the Rwanda FinTech Centre, Minister @MusoniPaula reflected on Rwandaโs progress in digital finance, noting that while financial inclusion has surpassed 90%, the next priority is ensuring fintech innovation can scale and deliver solutions that respond to the needs of businesses and communities.
โIโm hoping that we move beyond the launch to real implementation, real progress and real impact. We move from pilots in our fintech ecosystem to scalable initiatives, and from individual efforts to coordinated ecosystem growth.โ
KIFC CEO @HortenseMudenge emphasizes that real progress in inclusive finance begins when innovators, investors, and partners come together with purpose.

eKash is Now Live for Person-to-Merchant Transactions!
Today marks a major milestone in Rwandaโs digital payments journey #eKash is now officially live for Person-to-Merchant (P2M) transactions! This is more than just a feature launch; itโs a leap toward financial inclusion, where every Rwandan, from the bustling market vendor in Kimisagara to the growing SME Nyagatare, can transact seamlessly across all platforms.
During the announcement of the person-to-merchant feature going live at #IFF2025, @RwandaICT Minister @MusoniPaula said that 'Imagine a world where your money moves effortlessly, from your e-wallet to anywhere, without friction. Thatโs the vision of eKash! Rwandaโs digital payment revolution is here, and itโs just getting started.'
At the heart of this revolution is RNDPS, an inclusive payments system that connects users to all marketplaces through a single endpoint. With eKash, users can now pay merchants instantly, affordably, and securely, no barriers, no limits. As @RSwitch CEO Blaise GASABIRA put it, 'The journey of RSwitch is a testament. Together with our partners, financial institutions, and Rwandans at large, we are not merely adapting to change, we are driving it!"
Try It, if you're attending #IFF2025, grab a coffee at participating merchants and experience the power of eKash firsthand. This is just the beginning! Soon, weโll expand to bulk payments, bill payments, and government services.
Our partners @AfricaNenda, @mojaloop, @AFRwanda, and @gatesfoundation, have been instrumental in making this possible, and together, we are shaping Rwandaโs digital economy.
#eKash is more than a vision, itโs the heartbeat of Rwandaโs inclusive financial ecosystem. The future of payments is here, and it all comes together with #eKash!
