I've worked in health policy & health economics for over 35 years. I've heard since the beginning, about US healthcare (non) system being unsustainable. Yet it is sustained -->
US HC system, however flawed, and despite how much you might not like it, IS SUSTAINABLE!

Visiting space aliens, upon seeing humans oppress — or kill — one another over who they worship, who they sleep with, what side of an arbitrary line they’re born on, or how absorptive their skin is to sunlight, would surely race home & report no sign of intelligent life on Earth.
US Covid hospitalizations are at a plateau ~40,000, which is ~4-fold where we were in April this year.
Likewise, deaths are at ~500 each day, and confirmed cases still hover about 100,000 per day.
This is not what containing the virus looks like.
Why isn't the contrast dye shortage due to supply chain issues in China, affecting so many aspects of medical practice and patient imaging, getting national media coverage? And how did we get to rely 100% on China for contrast dye?

Could it be that the best social determinant intervention is moneyinstead of the panoply of feel-good programs (meals, transport, etc) that have minimal demonstrated effect on the health of populations?
I was trying to describe how Covid gobbles up all the time we ID docs used to spend on other stuff -- there are only so many hours in the day.
Fortunately, my sister came to the rescue with a clever graphic, which explains it perfectly. Latest: https://t.co/bFFepQPEmr

Virus growing and detectable in saliva days earlier than the nose!
Both PCR & Ag in nose lag saliva 1-3 days
In Nose, PCR is 1 day faster than Ag (As Expected)
