🚨 BREAKING: Kylian Mbappé breaks silence over his decision to apologise

“It’s not that I completely regret my actionable apology, but it hurts to be humble and honest about certain aspects of events that ultimately affect your life, yet still get treated with disrespect and contempt.

The past few days have been unbearable, and I don’t want to keep carrying on like it doesn’t matter. In fact, it keeps getting worse, and I can’t endure any more.

When this issue broke out, I quickly said to myself, ‘But I didn’t intend any disrespect towards the Chinese people or its government, so why is this happening now?’ Fine. What about looking for solutions instead of trying to blame someone for the unfolding of this situation?

Are they even aware of the insult the government claimed? Or is this just another excuse to blind people from the obvious truth? Well, I don’t know.

I’ve been a professional human being since I turned ten years old. How to talk. What to say and when not to give a reaction. As a player who millions of people tune in to watch and hold in high esteem, I said to myself that I must act quick and tender an apology.

If I wanted things to blow out of proportion, I simply would have kept mute and let not just the Chinese media or government sell whatever narrative they wanted.

I am human and I have humour. Now that I’ve said that, I apologised and even reached out to organisations responsible for this kind of thing, and I didn’t get any responses.

My assumption is that the government have asked that they not respond or get involved. That’s fine if you ask me.

It was nothing much, only a joke. Now that the reaction got a very bad rap, I decided that fine. I’ll make my own research, and you won’t believe the discoveries I made.

It’s not that I want to categorise myself as one who is above the law or think that I am better than everyone else. But I certainly reacted better than most people would.

Having seen my apology rejected and that of the league president ignored, it hurt, because this interview didn’t happen today, nor did it intend for any bad outcome.

I’ve lost contracts, the Chinese people have been denied the opportunity of watching our beautiful game. That is not what bothers me the most. In fact, the league has lost quite some important deals. Which, when I think of it, I question why the overly restrictive rules by the Chinese government.

I didn’t insult China or anyone. The meme wasn’t created by me either. And at this point, I no longer feel the need to apologise. I would have retracted my statement. But I’ll leave it that way.

The hate I’ve gotten from people who are either misinformed or not interested in finding out what truly happened is entirely unfounded.

At this moment, I am neither sorry nor interested in what they (China Gov) decide on. They want to suspend broadcasting in their country? That’s up to them.

What they don’t have the power to do is suspend me or suspend the league franchise from entertaining those who care to watch us.

The companies can take away their deals, brands can back off. And even angry Chinese mobs can take down my images within their reach. What they can’t do is make me stop loving football or reacting to funny stuff I see online.

I did not insult China and I am not apologising any further. This issue doesn’t need to go further than it has already.

One day, history or well-meaning people of China will judge between me and Mao Zedong for who they think is a dictator.”

🚨 zinedine zidane questions the reaction to kylian mbappé's controversy with china 🇫🇷🇨🇳

🗣️“If Kylian Mbappé were American, would the Chinese be reacting with this same level of outrage? That's a question people need to ask themselves.

“If it were Christian Pulisic laughing at the same meme, would we be witnessing this much anger?

“I honestly doubt it.

“Let's be honest, the reaction to this situation has been excessive.

“Mbappé reacted to a meme, and suddenly, people are treating him like he committed an international crime.

“Are we seriously going to turn every controversial moment involving a footballer into a diplomatic crisis?

“If the Chinese believe Mbappé crossed a line, they can express their concerns without demanding that the entire world condemn him.

“What bothers me most is the double standard in situations like this.

“Some people receive understanding when they make mistakes, while others are immediately treated as villains.

“Would Pulisic face the same level of criticism if he were in Mbappé's position?

“Would American celebrities be subjected to this kind of worldwide scrutiny over a similar incident?

“Or would everyone simply laugh, explain the misunderstanding and move on?

“People cannot demand respect for their culture while refusing to consider the possibility that someone made an innocent mistake.

“If Mbappé deliberately insulted China, I would understand the anger.

“But where is the evidence that he intended to offend an entire nation?

“Laughing at a meme does not automatically mean you support everything behind it.

“We need to stop judging people's intentions without considering the circumstances.

“China is a powerful nation, but that does not mean every controversial incident involving a foreign celebrity should become a global spectacle.

“Mbappé is a footballer, not a politician, and he should not be expected to navigate every internet controversy perfectly.

“People are acting as though he publicly declared war on China.

“This is exactly how social media turns minor incidents into enormous controversies.

“If Pulisic did the same thing tomorrow, I would judge his actions by the same standard.

“I don't care whether you're French, American or from any other country; fairness should apply to everyone.

“China deserves respect, but Mbappé also deserves a fair hearing before people condemn him.

“Sometimes, the reaction to a controversy becomes more unreasonable than the original incident.

“At the end of the day, if this was genuinely an innocent mistake, people should have enough maturity to accept an explanation and move forward.”

🚨Zlatan Ibrahimovic reacts to the backlash surrounding Kylian Mbappe’s comments about Chinese leader Mao Zedong:

• Reporter: Zlatan, Kylian Mbappé is under heavy fire after laughing at a meme of himself as Mao Zedong and calling him a “Chinese dictator.” Chinese brands have dropped him, there’s outrage online, and he’s already apologised. What’s your take on all this?

🗣️Zlatan: Listen to me. The whole world spent months turning “dictator” into a joke about Mbappé. Memes, edits, captions, TikToks — everyone was laughing. People were putting his face on every strongman they could find and calling it content. Nobody cried then. Nobody demanded an apology. It was funny. It was free. It was fine.

Then Mbappé sees one of those same memes, laughs, and says something like “I think that’s a Chinese dictator.” Suddenly the same people who were happily making him the punchline start acting like he personally insulted 1.4 billion people. He was laughing at a joke about himself. Not attacking Chinese people. Not attacking their culture. Not attacking their nationality. He was reacting to a meme that already existed, the same meme everyone else had already been sharing for months.

Criticising a historical dictator is not the same as insulting Chinese people. Those are different things. If you can’t tell the difference between political criticism, a historical reference, and a footballer laughing at his own meme, that’s a you problem. Mao is a historical figure. Plenty of people outside China have opinions about him. That doesn’t mean Mbappé woke up one morning and decided to attack an entire country.

If the meme was fair game when random accounts were posting it, it was fair game when Mbappé laughed at it. You don’t get to encourage the mockery, then demand an apology the moment the person being mocked stops sitting there quietly and starts laughing too. That’s not principle.
That’s just selective outrage.

Mbappé is a footballer who saw a meme of himself and laughed. That’s it. The rest is people choosing to misunderstand humour because it fits whatever narrative they want that day. I don’t apologise for things that don’t need apologising for, and neither should he. If you spent months calling him a dictator for content, don’t start crying when he calls the actual historical figure a dictator in the same joke.

The people demanding an apology for a self-deprecating meme are the same ones who were posting the meme in the first place. Explain that one. I’ll wait.

🚨🚨BREAKING Emmanuel Macron breaks his silence on the Mbappé vs China controversy.

“Let me make one thing very clear. France has absolutely no reason to panic because a meme has offended people in China. Kylian Mbappé laughed at jokes about himself, and somehow, this has become an international controversy. Are we serious right now?

I have more important matters to deal with than explaining to people why a French footballer is allowed to laugh at memes about his own life. Mbappé has represented France on the biggest stages in world football, and I will not watch him being treated like a criminal for something this ridiculous.

If the Chinese government or anyone else wants to take this matter a step further, then France is prepared to respond accordingly. We will not be pressured into apologising simply because people have decided to take a joke personally. Respect must work both ways.

Let me also make this clear: France will not allow anyone to dictate how our citizens should speak, think or react. You cannot spend years mocking someone and then become offended when that same person laughs along with the jokes.

If they want to turn a meme into a diplomatic issue, that is their choice. But France has no intention of making this bigger than it needs to be. Mbappé has my support, and we have far more important things to worry about than internet memes.”

@yarotrof Why is it that American reporters /interviewers all fail to correct the bullshit that comes out of his mouth on a daily basis? I think that’s one of the major reasons things have become as ridiculous as they have. If they did a better job I doubt he’d be president in first place
