An armoured catfish reportedly spent 10 days dead and dried out, only to come back to life after being soaked in river water.
Before concluding that the fish came back from the dead, there is a biological question to consider.
Some armoured catfish can breathe air using a modified digestive tract, allowing them to survive in water with low oxygen levels. Some species also tolerate harsh environmental conditions.
But surviving outside water is not the same as surviving complete desiccation. If the fish was truly dead, rehydration would not bring it back to life.
The key questions is, Was it actually dead, or had it entered a state of inactivity?
Nature can be surprising, but the science lies in distinguishing what is possible from what a viral video claims.
