It is in the most dangerous times, the precariously unfortunate moments of history, and the harshest slices of lived reality that the Genius of Akanbi shines the brightest, his wisdom cuts the deepest, and his legacy stands the firmest…

Asiwaju has never enjoyed an easy reign in his political odyssey -

Not as a Senator when he stood toe-to-toe with the Generals; not as a democracy activist staring down the barrel of Dictatorship, surviving assassination attempts and outwitting his hunters into exile;

Not as Governor of Lagos State, when a collapsing former capital met the Midas touch of Asiwaju and rose from fiscal and physical ruin; not as an opposition leader, where he confronted the lavishly oiled rigging machinery of the then–ruling PDP and still peeled state after state from the grip of the Behemoth;

Not as a Presidential Candidate of the ruling party, where even his own party’s support was a gamble, where the twin demons of fuel and cash scarcity reared their heads - yet Baba prevailed over every snare laid before him, unlike the Agulu kitten who could not even muster the courage to submit himself to a credible primary;

And certainly not as President, where he has embarked on the most sensitive, most avoided, and boldest reforms - the very ones past leaders sidestepped to protect their popularity. He dared the odds, damned the consequences, and eventually turned the corner…

So for a man so familiar with adversity and rude confrontations, not even the rantings of a madman from yonder can ruffle a leader with clear vision and lion-hearted courage - one whose greatness is shielded by the Host of Heaven.

APC Presidential Primary results

Bola Tinubu = 10,999,162 votes

Stanley Osifo = 16,503 votes

2018

Muhammadu Buhari - 14,842,072

General Elections - 15,191,847.

So before the opposition begins to open its mouth and cry rigging - let it first sit down and learn. APC is a party seasoned in the furnace of democratic contest. Our culture of robust internal democracy has never been in doubt. That is a doctrine the opposition, fractured and fumbling, has yet to learn.

But let the celebration be brief. For a man who knows where he is going does not sit down to admire the road.

If 2018 is the pattern - and patterns, like proverbs, do not lie - then the votes attracted at a general election tend to mirror, with eerie faithfulness, what was gathered at the primaries. Buhari pulled 14.8 million in the primaries. He pulled 15.1 million at the poll. The margin of difference was negligible.

Now Asiwaju has 10,999,162 from the primaries. And while none of the heavily fragmented, ideologically homeless, and perpetually bickering opposition parties can dream of fifty percent of that number in the general elections - there is still work to be done.

I do not seek a mere victory. I crave a rout - overwhelming, incontestable, undebatable. The kind that silences the room before the last ballot is counted.

11 million votes in a general election is enough. Enough to win. But "enough to win" is not enough for me. I want a minimum of 15 million votes - so that the combined arithmetic of every baby politician on that ballot will not be sufficient to close the margin, scratch the lead, or feed the narrative..

Let there be no argument. Let there be no court case. Let the numbers speak so loudly that even the deaf concede.

We must not give the opposition even the consolation of a close count.

I will play my part.
