This is good officiating and more refs need to be encouraged to take initiative like this esp in the Prem, you can't be so brazen in your time wasting tactics like this and expect everyone to just roll with it. Play football
🚨🎙️ Gary Neville on the officiating in the Champions League final:
“Arsenal fans have come pouring out on social media again, screaming that the referee was against them – the first-half whistle blown just as Saka was about to take that corner, the extra-time decision on Madueke, the whole lot. It’s the same old story with this lot – siege mentality, conspiracy theories, the lot.
But let’s be honest: the referee did a good job tonight. That first-half whistle? Arsenal had been wasting time all half with their deep block and slow build-up – he was spot on to blow it when Saka was taking forever. And the big one in extra time? Madueke went down too easily under minimal contact from Mendes. No clear foul, nothing clear and obvious. VAR and the ref got the big calls right.
Arsenal led early through Havertz but couldn’t finish the job and lost on penalties. So learn the laws of the game and stop being so entitled. Suck it up, move on, and stop blaming the officials every single time you don’t win. You’ve got to take responsibility for your own performance instead of this constant moaning. That’s football – sometimes you just lose.”

The final referee, Daniel Siebert, whom Arsenal fans are now calling out, was also the referee for Arsenal’s semi-final second leg against Atlético Madrid.
He refused what many considered a blatant penalty and sending-off for Gabriel following a foul on Simeone.
Later in the match, the referee fell for Gabriel’s dive and blew the whistle early, subsequently denying what many felt was a clear penalty on Griezmann.
Arsenal fans did not have any complaints then; instead, they agreed with the referee’s decision.
Now that the same referee has rightly not awarded a penalty for them, they are complaining.
Arsenal fans are never easy to understand.
Yesterday’s refereeing was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time.
For the first 15 minutes, the ref fell for Arsenal’s shenanigans: blowing a foul for every slight fall and every little touch. Then, all of a sudden, he clocked their dirty antics and took complete control of the game.
He stopped buying their silly theatrics: Mosquera time wasting, Havertz falling at every slight touch, Saka wasting time for the corner, Arteta touchline tantrums, Madueke diving. I can go on and on
Arsenal have become so used to getting away with this cunning stuff from Premier League refs that they seemed genuinely shocked when it didn’t work.
I’m glad the referee refused to be intimidated and stood his ground. That’s how you referee a final.
You might con your way to a Premier League title, but you can’t do it in the UCL. Either you play like real men or go home
The time is 6:31 and he gives you some seconds to play the corner and you’re strolling causally to take the corner and he called it off and you think the ref is at fault. This is the first ref that will never all VAR interfere to his game, he literally took charge of the game. I love this and hope to see this type of ref in the worldcup
Bro, shouting about winning the EPL only hurts teams that have never won it. Show us your UCL trophy, my team has reached the final 4 times in my lifetime & won it twice. These players are not smiling and laughing tonight, & neither are you… take it like a big boy.
