Want a real-time snapshot of how far left the Democratic Party has lurched? Look at San Francisco.

Nancy Pelosi held that seat for nearly 40 years—the defining power center of establishment Democratic politics. Today, even she can’t steer what comes next. She endorsed San Francisco Supervisor, Connie Chan, but Chan finished a distant second to Scott Weiner, one of the most radical progressive voices in California. Weiner and Chan will face off in November, with political odds makers making Weiner the prohibitive favorite.

The party that is rising now is to the left of Pelosi, and not by a little.

This isn’t evolution. It’s a takeover.

Wiener has pushed to soften aspects of sex offender registration, championed unrestricted pediatric gender interventions, backed policies that cut parents out of their children’s gender decision, and supported legal frameworks that can strip custody from parents who dissent. He supports the right of men who identify as trans to enter female-only spaces.

And then there’s Israel.

Wiener—a Jewish lawmaker—has echoed repeatedly the most extreme rhetoric of the activist left, accusing Israel of genocide in a clear bid to align with a party base where anti-Israel sentiment is no longer fringe—it has become a litmus test.

Weiner might be too far left even by Pelosi’s standards, but he still was backed by tech titans, including donations from OpenAI’s Sam Altman and crypto billionaire Chris Larsen.

Let that sink in: the political heir to Pelosi’s San Francisco is shaped by a movement that has moved well past her—and is unapologetic about it.

The Democratic Party didn’t just shift left.

It left its old center behind—and it’s not looking back.
