Zohran Mamdani decided to highlight congressman Vito Anthony Marcantonio in Honor of Italian American Heritage month.
Marcantonio has recently been romanticized in socialist circles.
Interestingly, Marcantonio was a fierce advocate for establishing a Jewish state and removing the British mandate for Palestine.
Marcantonio also spoke out fiercely against the 1948 arms embargo the US placed on Israel and ferociously attacked the British for farming and taking the side of Palestinians in the 1948 War of aggression initiated by Palestinians.
Here are some of his quotes:
"The best way to avoid war and bloodshed in Palestine is for the State Department to keep its word and to take the lead in bringing about the enforcement of the United Nations’ decision on Palestine."
"The time has come when we should say to England that she has got to stop helping the Arabs."
"At least we should not make it possible for her to continue giving the Arabs aid to the extent of about $46,000,000 a year which they claim they must do under treaty obligations."
Not the Nakba narrative the DSA likes peddling.
On this day—October 10, 1942
The Vatican told Washington it could neither confirm nor deny the Nazi systematic extermination of the Jews despite it being the one institution in Europe that still had contacts inside the Reich.
Confirmations from other sources had been arriving for two months.
On August 8, Gerhart Riegner’s cable reported that Hitler had ordered the Jews of Europe deported, concentrated, and killed. The State Department suppressed it. But the British passed it on to prominent American Jewish Rabbi Stephen Wise on August 28. Under Secretary Sumner Welles asked Wise to sit on it until reports could be confirmed.
Meanwhile, eight days earlier, on August 20, the State Department received a letter from an American YMCA official back from Vichy France describing how he watched as truckloads of Jewish children were bussed to forced labor or extermination as their parents could only watch and cry out.
On August 26, the U.S. ambassador to the Polish government-in-exile sent the White House a memo: “There is no precedent for such organized wholesale dying in all Jewish history, nor indeed in the whole history of mankind.”
On August 30, the Jewish Agency in Geneva forward the account of two non-Jewish eyewitnesses: the Warsaw Ghetto was being liquidated, 50,000 Jews had been killed in Lvov, and their corpses were being used for fertilizer.
More than four months after receiving the Riegner cable, the Allies finally issued a joint condemnation on December 17. Suggestions poured in for how to save the Jews of Europe. The Allies declined.
So many could have been saved. At that point, the crematoria at Auschwitz were not yet finished. Most of the one million Jews who would die at that camp alone were still alive.
“I hate Andy Burnham but I think the UK has a right to exist.” You’d sound like a fucking hateful self-centered lunatic if you spoke about any other country in the world the way you speak about Israel.
Boxing has rules. Once you step in the ring it’s still a fight. It’s not chess. Nobody wrote a rule that says you throw one punch and your opponent is only allowed to throw one back. You go in to knock him down until he can’t get up.
War works the same way. So if you start one, there is NO law that says the side you hit has to answer with the same number of strikes you threw. The point is that one side wins and the other cannot get up again.
The moment you invent a special rule for one fighter only, and call a draw the only legal result, you’re not making war humane. You’re simply guaranteeing the next war and more bloodshed. And the one after that.
Proportionate force, the way it gets shouted at Israel, isn’t a law. It’s a wishlist from the people who start the wars and don’t want to lose them.
As a Muslim Arab, I am disgusted and heartbroken by what I saw across Western cities on October 7, 2026: people celebrating the October 7, 2023 massacre. Glorifying the murder, rape, and kidnapping of civilians is morally bankrupt, inhumane, and a disgrace to humanity. This wasn’t an ISIS or Al-Qaeda camp. This was in Western cities: people openly celebrating a massacre carried out by the filthy Muslim Brotherhood terrorists of Hamas against Jewish children, women, and civilians from all around the world in Israel. Utterly shameful.
How did we reach a point where this needs to be explained? An eight-month-old baby was kidnapped. Women were raped. Children were murdered. Families were slaughtered. Human beings were dragged from their homes.
No cause justifies this.
No country justifies this.
No grievance justifies this.
Nothing justifies raping a woman. Nothing justifies kidnapping a baby. Nothing justifies murdering innocent people.
And to see people in Western cities celebrating, glorifying, excusing, romanticising, or sanitising this horror in the name of “democracy” and “freedom of speech” is beyond disgusting.
It is morally bankrupt. Shameful. Depraved. Inhumane. Heartless. Indefensible.
What breaks my heart most is that we are even having this conversation.
When did rape require a political explanation?
When did kidnapping babies become something to celebrate?
When did massacring Jews become something people could cheer for in the streets and still pretend they were standing for humanity?
There is nothing progressive about celebrating barbarity. There is nothing courageous about glorifying terrorism. There is nothing democratic about cheering a massacre.
This is not humanity. This is a moral disgrace.
And the fact that anyone can celebrate such suffering should make every decent human being, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, or otherwise, feel both heartbroken and furious.
I have written about antisemitism every day for more than a decade. I still flinched at the livestreams from New York yesterday, the groups chanting “Allahu Akbar” and “Long live Hamas.” This 15 second clip ends on a young woman with her hands on her face. Bewildered. That is the same feeling I had.
I still cannot quite take in how openly they have no shame. At Union Square they overran a vigil with Hamas flags and a portrait of Sinwar and told the mourners that they had sent the Israeli October 7 victims to hell. “Go to Poland" they kept shouting.
The surprise is gone. My disgust is not. We keep treating open celebration of a massacre as an aberration. It is not, it is who they are. It is chilling and disturbing that they live among us as neighbors and coworkers.
New Jersey: This is your public service announcement for today, and it's an important one.
I want you all to know something: The federal government has made the SAVE System (administered by the US Citizenship and Immigrations Service - USCIS) available to every county in the country FREE OF CHARGE, so they may use this incredible database to verify the US citizenship status of everyone on their voter rolls.
The 21 counties in New Jersey are able to sign up for this service, and run their voter rolls through the system to double-check that all potentially illegal voters have actually been removed. (**The SAVE System is NOT the Save America Act**)
The Commissioners of Registration (each county has one) are employed by their COUNTY, and are responsible for maintaining the integrity of their county's voter rolls by verifying that each person who registers to vote is legally eligible to do so. But right now, NOT ONE COUNTY actually has the ability to check citizenship status.
Using the SAVE System, our counties would have at least one tool to help safe-guard our elections from ineligible ballots being cast. You will see many news outlets, activist groups, etc. trying to tell people that using the SAVE System means the counties are just arbitrarily purging voters from their rolls. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The SAVE database provides a way for the counties to cross-reference their voters' information against federal immigration and citizenship records (among other things) and alerts the county about people who are potentially not eligible to be on the voter rolls. **The county will still have to do their due diligence!! For example: they can require a "flagged" voter to provide DOCUMENTARY PROOF of their citizenship status in order to remain on the rolls (What a concept, huh???!)
We need to let our counties' Commissioners of Registration know that we want them to utilize this system, immediately!
If they refuse, that will tell us everything we need to know about how they actually feel regarding truly free, fair, and trustworthy elections.
If we want to protect our elections, it's up to US not to let this story die and keep the pressure on our county election officials.
You can learn more about the SAVE System here:

Mia Schem was a Drake fan. She listened to his music, admired him and even received clothing from his brand. Then she heard him say: “Pray for Gaza.”
For Mia, those words landed very differently.
Mia was shot and kidnapped from the Nova festival on October 7 and dragged into Gaza, where she spent 55 days in Hamas captivity. She says the wife of the man holding her sometimes fed her only once every two or three days, while his children would taunt her with food and then refuse to give it to her.
“They treated me like an animal in a cage.”
Mia says she initially believed that perhaps the women and children around her would show some humanity. Instead, she says she saw hatred being taught from childhood: “They teach the children from the beginning to hate, to become terrorists and to glorify death.”
Her friend Elia Toledano was kidnapped from Nova as well. He never came home alive.
So when Mia heard Drake’s message, she says she was shocked. And she had something to say to celebrities who speak so confidently about a reality they have never lived: “People don’t understand anything. They follow what other people say, like sheep.”
“I was kidnapped from my country and taken to Gaza. I know how they treated me there.”
That is the part Drake and every celebrity turning Gaza into a slogan should hear.
Mia does not know Gaza from TikTok, hashtags or celebrity activism. She knows it because she was dragged there wounded, held hostage, starved and tormented.
Before preaching to the world about Gaza, listen to the woman who was actually taken there against her will.
Her testimony matters more than any celebrity slogan.

Ask me if I care what happens to Gaza.
The answer might surprise you.
I do care.
I think the Israelis have been much too kind.
If these semi humans did this to my people, the retribution we would inflict would have them invoking our name to scare children for 100 generations.
The Palestinians deserve everything they’ve received, and much much more.
When Jews were being slaughtered in Europe and Russia, they didn’t invade anyone, they went home, they bought land, legally.
The region had no sovereign state at the time, only centuries of occupation under foreign empires.
They drained swamps, built cities, created infrastructure, and that success attracted migrants, from Egypt, from the Levant, from the Arabian Peninsula, who came seeking opportunity in the land they were reviving.
When the Ottoman occupation ended, everyone in the region got a state.
The Maronites in the north got Lebanon.
The Hashemites got Jordan. Iraq was born. Syria too.
So Jews asked for one state, just one, but they were told no.
They still agreed to share the land, even though they were offered the worst half, mostly desert.
Their neighbors still said no.
Then came 1948.
Five Arab armies invaded to wipe them out. They fought, survived and won.
Then they offered peace again, but the Arabs answered with the Three No’s of Khartoum: No peace. No recognition. No negotiations.
Arabs tried again in 1967 to destroy them. Jews survived again. They captured more land, not out of ambition, but necessity.
But when peace was possible, they gave land back.
They returned Sinai to Egypt.
They withdrew from Southern Lebanon. They offered to withdraw from Gaza and the West Bank.
They offered the Palestinians everything they asked for in 2000.
Yet, Palestinians walked away.
In 2005, they unilaterally withdrew from Gaza. In return they got rockets, terror tunnels, kidnapped civilians.
Then came October 7, the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. Civilians slaughtered, babies burned, women raped.
So I ask: What do you want them to do?
Because “Never Again” means never again.
You don’t get to massacre their people and then cry about the consequences.
You don’t get to raise your children to hate them and then blame them when war comes.
They will not apologize for surviving, they will not apologize for fighting back.
Never Again means Never Again.
I don't want you to be sad and gentle today. I want your heart to be filled with anger and hate. The war is not over. Now is not the time for reflection. Now is the time to punish the bastards who did it and the bastards who allowed it to happen, and end the war. Really end it

The statement by NY Mayor Mandami is an outrageous & disgusting rant & made on a day that ought to honor the over 1200 civilians butchered by Hamas including 46 Americans. His comments are as insensitive & insulting as saying on the 9-11 Anniversary that “While we mourn the loss of those murdered by terrorists we condemn the response of the United States equally .” There is NO genocide in Gaza. The death toll there is due to Hamas having continued to hold hostages (including Americans) and starving, raping, torturing and killing them. An apology for his obtuse and utterly ignorant remarks are not enough. God help the people of New York for electing a a jihadist sympathizer!
Putting terrorists and aggressors on the same moral plane as their victims and targets is repugnant. At best it whitewashes horrible crimes, at worst it feeds the culture of murder and martyrdom that Hamas espouses.
A Letter to the World’s Leftists and to Righteous People : 7th of October. There are days history writes in ink, days it writes in tears, and days so terrible that history writes their names in blood. October 7 was such a day. The morning came quietly. Some were sleeping. Some were praying. Mothers were beside their children. Then Hamas terrorists, the Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood, entered homes in Israel. Blood. Fire. Screams. Women were raped. Children were burned. Families were executed. Babies were kidnapped. Jews were hunted and murdered.
Homes that once held prayers, laughter and children's footsteps became places of death. Beds became graves. A mother's arms became empty. A child's room waited for a child who would not return.
There are no words large enough for such grief. Only the silence afterward. The silence of a mother waiting for her child. The silence left when evil has finished screaming.
Once again, Jews were murdered for being Jews. An ancient nightmare suddenly had a date in the present tense. The old hatred had found new mouths and new excuses.
From my country, the United Arab Emirates, a Muslim Arab country, came a voice within minutes calling it by its name: A terrorist attack. No excuse. No ideology can make rape resistance. No slogan can make burning a child justice. No flag can make kidnapping a baby freedom.
And yet, London. Paris. Toronto. You would have expected tears. Instead, people celebrated while Jewish families searched for the missing and children remained with kidnappers. People waved the flag of the kidnappers of babies instead of demanding freedom for the babies.
This was another wound of October 7. Innocent people were murdered, while others had forgotten how to mourn them. It felt as though civilisation had turned backwards. Back toward 1936. Back toward the old darkness. That was where morals failed.
I have travelled to universities around the world and stood beside Jewish communities attacked simply for being Jewish, to tell them: You have a friend here.
When the Holocaust happened, I was not there. I cannot go backwards and stop the trains or take one terrified child by the hand. But I was alive on October 7. And I had a choice.
One day my children may ask: Where did you stand? I want to tell them: I stood with the baby, not his kidnapper. I stood with the mother, not her rapist. I stood with the murdered, not the murderer. I stood with the Jew hunted simply for being a Jew.
When people found sophisticated words to excuse barbarism, I chose humanity's simplest word: No. No to rape. No to kidnapping. No to burning children. No to terrorism. No to antisemitism.
Hamas, the Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood, may have lost in Gaza, but an ideology does not die because it loses a battlefield. Look at the streets of the West, universities, some parliaments and city councils. Too many young minds have become hostages to propaganda for Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran's proxies in the West.
When you become silent about an October 7, you do not guarantee that October 7 will remain in the past.
Hatred begins as a sentence before it becomes a scream. Extremism begins as an excuse before it becomes an act. Evil first asks to be tolerated, then excused, then normalised.
Remember October 7. Remember the empty beds. Remember the empty arms. Remember the kidnapped. Remember the murdered. Remember Jewish families hunted in the one place every human should believe is safe: home.
Be like my country, the UAE, where antisemitism is not an opinion to celebrate. It is a crime. Where the Muslim Brotherhood is banned, not romanticised as activists.
History will ask something simple: When a child cried, where did you stand?
On October 7, I knew my answer. With the baby, not the kidnapper. With the mother, not her rapist. With the innocent, not the terrorist.
And when my children read this chapter of history, I want them to know: Their father did not look away.
