@Ethan_MidPen @Desmos You can do this in the CL using the "bounds" feature. I made a quick activity show that you can copy if it's what you actually want! https://t.co/AIcP0Lt7rA
@kreiem I did this a few years ago with our water filler with students as well and it was a great activity! They had to predict the day they believed the bottle filler was installed based on data they collected themselves over a few weeks. https://t.co/TMgBtRDnAV
Did a number line activity with 60 teachers in our @thenumberlab shirts! Such good math talk among a community of teachers - great way to kick off the school year! @DrewNor86273595
During a WODB activity today, teacher said “that parabola doesn’t belong - its angle is wider” this led to a 10 min convo about precisely defining parabolas. Goal of the session? Our school’s assessments. Adding one activity led to deep mathematical discussion #mathchat#mtbos
@abusch38@lisa_bej@cmmteach@cluzniak@daniellereycer@cctmath Also - I am the math curriculum director for STRIVE Prep high schools so I’m not in the classroom at this moment. Although I am trying to get back in some form over the next couple of years. I mostly taught PreCalc and Calc before I left the classroom.
@abusch38@lisa_bej@cmmteach@cluzniak@daniellereycer@cctmath Thanks Casey for the introduction and the welcome from everyone else! I am not able to go to CCTM’s conference this year... it’s when we have training for teachers and coaches. I have tried to go the past two years, but it always seems to happen when we have training :(
Not trying to say that standards are unnecessary, but rather that they are often misplaced when planning or designing a learning experience for students.
Shouldn’t we be thinking of “standard” as a measurement tool to look at our teaching when we are done?
Standard is defined as “a level of quality or attainment” yet we use standards as what needs to be taught in classes. Shouldn’t we be using them as a tool to measure after instruction we designed to reflect or measure, rather than as what should be taught?

Very excited to be a part of the collaboratory again this year - Today I was introduced to a new idea and thought a lot about the multiplicative identity “That is the number’s identity because it has that many 1’s” @KevinMo84034041
“As we have been working today, I have never once thought about what the correct answer is. That’s want I want my students to think like."
