If this is true it would’ve been nice if we could’ve kept it under wraps considering he has no trade clause
I’m not entirely sure how to feel because now I’m not really sure what return would look like
If the Tigers are gonna make a run at all, it’s gonna be over the next month without Skubal
That means Mize, Melton, Montero, JV, Jack and Framber pitched well enough to win a ton of games, which is even more reason to trade Skubal to help the offense
@MarcAPerna@wxcameron@IYKbaseball Health, durability, postseason experience, ability to eat innings ( I think he has as many CG as Skubal and second most 7+ innings games over the last 3 years) and honestly he’s stuff has gotten better
I truly think he’d be a great 4-5 starter on a playoff team
@BuckGenoIII@PresselGavin@UMFanJosh Yea I think they’re are a few ways they could about watching some guys.
I don’t think they’re too worried about Melton but I’m looking at today differently since he was rolling, we need to start watching our own, and he still won’t throw a ton of innings this season
@BuckGenoIII@UMFanJosh Yea I agree especially when guys like Montero, Mize and Valdez are so used to every 5th day but I think they’d do something to watch Olsen, Jobe and to a lesser degree Meltons innings
@BuckGenoIII@UMFanJosh I’d be okay with that although I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep him up if he comes up when he’s healthy.
But I’d be okay with him or Olsen starting in AAA since he’s barely pitched in like 2-3 years
@wxcameron@IYKbaseball If you don’t realize how important Montero has been for this team since 2024
He was great last postseason and pitching chaos doesn’t work on 2024 without him.
The best ability is availability and he’s more available than Mize, Jobe and Olsen with better numbers than Jobe
@BuckGenoIII@UMFanJosh I would honestly be surprised if we didn’t go to like a 6 man rotation to keep an eye on the innings for Melton, Olsen and Jobe with they’re age and injury history
Montero, Mize and Framber might have the most reliablity from a health standpoint
Holy moly this offense
Is Dingler the best Catcher in the league?
Is that 7 homer runs in 22 innings? I think that’s more than we’ve had in like the last two weeks of May
@Miggysbat I largely agree but I still think it would’ve been nice Tork, Vierling, Perez and ZMAC step up and play at least replacement level
That said the difference between needing all 4 to play daily and Tork be a top 4ish bat vs a bottom 3 bat and not needing all 4 is wild
If the reports about the Tigers pitching are true and we have no set backs, then that’s a bigger reason to trade Skubal once he’s healthy
If Valdez, JV, Jack, Montero, Melton, Mize, Madden, and Jobe are all back by June, that’s a rotation that can win games even without Skubal
@Yooper_IA I was telling people a couple months ago
If Tork put up numbers like last year and was one 6/7 bat (Gleyber, Kevin, Riley, Dingler, Kerry, +/- Colt) we’d be fine
It’s a lot harder when we need him to be a top 4 bat
18 runs in 16 innings in June, I hope this is a real wake up
They scored 17 in 6 games vs Boston and KC combined
Then 20 in 10 games vs the Mets, Jays and Cleveland
And ended May with 16 runs in 6 games vs the Angels and Sox
Just sucks we lost like 11 games by 2 or less in May
There was a 10 game stretch over 3 series (Mets, Jays, Guardians) where we went 1-9 with a combined 21 runs and scored less than 8 in all 3 series (plus this last weekend)
They have 8 runs in 6 innings, maybe we just didn’t like May?
