Winston Churchill’s actions during the Bengal Famine of 1943 were not just negligent - they were deliberate acts of genocidal cruelty fueled by racism and imperial greed. Claims by apologists attempting to paint Churchill as innocent collapse under the weight of historical evidence. Here I debunk their lying claims:

Claim 1: British government found out about the famine’s severity in August 1943.
Truth: Churchill’s administration knew of the impending famine 8 months before it unfolded. On December 18, 1942, the Food Department of India sent a desperate telegram to the British Secretary of State, warning of catastrophic food shortages caused by monsoon failure (Image 1). The plea was unequivocal - India faced a shortfall of 1.4 million tons of rice, 650,000 tons of millets, 400,000 tons of wheat, and 200,000 tons of gram. The message was clear, immediate assistance was required to avoid absolute disaster.

Instead Churchill not only withheld aid while the famine raged - his administration FORCED India to export 360,000 tons of wheat and rice in 1942-43. This grain, which could have saved two million Indian lives, was diverted to support British war efforts. Churchill had 8 full months to act but deliberately did NOTHING to prevent the oncoming famine crisis in India.

Claim 2: Churchill worked hard to “save the people of Bengal.”
Truth: Churchill’s policies were rooted in contempt for Indian lives. Viceroy Wavell’s journal reveals that during a September 1943 Cabinet meeting, Churchill raged against sending food relief to India, insisting that supplies should instead be stockpiled for liberated European nations like Greece (Image 2). Wavell’s damning words capture Churchill’s callousness:
"Apparently it is more important to save the Greeks and liberated countries from starvation than the Indians."
Churchill clearly commanded that relief should be restricted ONLY to those directly contributing to British war efforts, such as British army soldiers and factory/railroad workers, while leaving millions of the most helpless ordinary civilians to starve.

Claim 3: Churchill authorized around 1 million tons of grain to be shipped to India between August 1943 and December 1944.
Truth: This is a deviously misleading calculated half-truth. While approximately 900,000 tons of grain were sent, Churchill did not intend this food for Indian starving civilians at all. Viceroy Wavell’s June 24, 1944 telegram makes it clear that this grain was needed to feed the British Army stationed in India (Image 3). He warned Churchill that bases were “liable to starvation” if food was not imported. The British military alone required over 1 million tons of grain annually for its operations, leaving NO meaningful relief for starving Indian civilians. Churchill’s shipments were not humanitarian aid at all - they were clinically heartless logistical measures granted only to sustain Britain’s war machine. By late 1943, when he finally reluctantly sanctioned some aid at the insistence of Wavell & Amery, even that relief was conditional. In a further act of cruelty, Churchill agreed to send 150,000 tons of wheat to India ONLY if India supplied an equivalent amount of rice to Ceylon. Churchill FORCED India to export more than 70,000 tons of rice to Ceylon between January and July 1943 exactly when the worst part of the famine was setting in.

Such policies reveal Churchill’s true priorities: maintaining imperial dominance, no matter the human cost of Indian lives. This demolishes the argument that it was just a problem with shipping due to the war. Apparently there was no problem with shipping when sending food grains OUT of India during the height of the Famine!

In December 1943, the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) was created. Friends of India lobbied the USA for famine relief through UNRRA. But Churchill sent his representative Llewelyn to argue AGAINST any aid to India with the outrageous claim that the Indian famine had NOT been caused by war efforts. The corpulent tyrant ensured starving Indians could not even get UNRRA aid despite thousands of Indians fighting for the British in the War. And to add insult to injury he made India PAY $24 million while Indians starved!

Worst of all, Viceroy Wavell’s June 24, 1944 telegram makes it clear that there was a SECOND FAMINE impending in India in 1944 (Image 4), and grain was desperately needed to feed the British Army stationed in India. He warned Churchill that bases were “liable to starvation” if food was not imported. But Churchill did NOTHING. It was only by a huge stroke of luck that the monsoon turned out to be better than expected and Indians were able to avert a SECOND deadly famine in 1944 - otherwise we would be talking about 10s of millions murdered.

The Bengal Famine of 1943 was not an unavoidable calamity - it was a man-made atrocity, orchestrated by Churchill’s racist and imperialist policies. Under his leadership, 3–5 million Indians died, not because of natural disaster but because Churchill mercilessly prioritized British interests over Indian lives. His infamous comment to Leo Amery that “famine relief would do no good because Indians breed like rabbits” lays bare the contempt he held for millions of Indians dying in agony after Britain had sucked all of India's resources dry. To Churchill, the death of millions of Indians was not a tragedy - it was pest control of the Indians he held in such contempt.

Churchill’s actions were not only cruel but genocidal in intent. He deliberately exacerbated famine conditions by denying vital food shipments to India, exporting vital resources from India, ignoring urgent warnings, desperate pleas for help and hoarding grain for British soldiers and European allies. The evidence is irrefutable: Winston Churchill was no hero. For India, he was a murderous tyrant whose policies inflicted unspeakable suffering. The Bengal Famine remains a permanent and horrific stain on Winston Churchill's legacy, a chilling reminder of the horrors of imperialism, and an indictment of those who seek to glorify it.

Had it had been a Western country with millions of white Christians that starved instead of brown Hindus, then none of these apologists would make a peep to defend Churchill’s murderous actions.

Ajmer 1992: The Brutal Gang Rape and Blackmail Hell That Targeted Hundreds of Hindu Schoolgirls – Identical to British Pakistani Grooming Gangs. The Indian Congress Party protected the perpetrators just as the labour protected the grooming gangs in the UK.

In Ajmer influential Muslim men from powerful Khadim families tied to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah turned the lives of young Hindu girls into a nightmare of systematic sexual terror. From the late 1980s into 1992 they hunted an estimated 250 Hindu school and college girls. Many were just 11 to 20 years old some barely teenagers. Around 250 victims were reported in the scale of the scandal with many more likely never coming forward out of deep fear and shame.
These Muslim predators befriended the girls lured them to remote farmhouses and bungalows drugged them and subjected them to gang rapes by multiple men. They photographed and filmed the assaults in explicit detail capturing the horror to weaponize against the victims. Using those nude photos and videos they blackmailed the girls into silence forced them into repeated rapes and pressured them to recruit their own friends and sisters to feed the same monstrous cycle.
Lives were shattered. Reputations destroyed. Families lived in fear and shame. Several girls reportedly took their own lives. The scandal only exploded when local journalists exposed it but the powerful accused including Youth Congress figures dragged justice out for 32 agonizing years. Only recently did a court finally hand life sentences to six of them.

This was no random crime spree. It was targeted exploitation of Hindu girls by influential Muslim men who abused their community influence and connections at the Dargah. Just like in the UK cases members of the Congress party protected or were directly linked to the perpetrators.

This is identical to the Pakistani grooming gangs in Britain. Rotherham Rochdale and beyond. Where groups of predominantly Pakistani Muslim men systematically groomed gang raped and trafficked thousands of vulnerable white British girls many from Christian or working class backgrounds. Labour party members and officials protected them or looked the other way for years terrified of racism labels while the predators operated with impunity viewing non Muslim girls as fair game.

In both cases the pattern is identical. Organized predation along religious and cultural lines. Blackmail and control through explicit photos and videos. Protection of perpetrators by political parties. Congress in Ajmer. Labour in Britain. Innocent girls targeted specifically because they were non Muslim. Hindu schoolgirls in Ajmer. English girls in the UK. Both left to suffer while the system failed them.

India failed its daughters in Ajmer through delays denial and elite protection. Britain failed its girls through political correctness and cowardice. The cases are the same and deeply alarming. No more hiding behind excuses.

These young Hindu schoolgirls were drugged violated photographed for blackmail and discarded like trash. Their pain was real their betrayal by the system total. So many never came forward out of terror even as the known toll reached 250.

British community take note. Ajmer and Rotherham are the same evil. Demand real justice protect vulnerable girls without apology and confront these patterns head on. The predators counted on shame and time to bury the truth. Never let them win.

Nowadays, we associate the stereotype of Indians excelling in math to Silicon Valley businesses/competitive exams. Centuries earlier, rural India had a highly advanced, beautifully poetic system of mental math that enabled ordinary village children, even those w/o paper/pens, to calculate complex arithmetic instantaneously.

The system got its name from Subhankar Das, a legendary mathematician from 14th-century Bankura, Bengal. He came to understand a basic fact about human nature: our brains are awful at remembering dull abstract eqns, but we are fabulous at remembering rhythms, rhymes & riddles.

He translated intricate math eqns into Bengali rhythmic verses.

The Subhankari system taught kids using folk riddles instead of teaching them x, y variables. Children in rural traditional schools, known as pathsalas, would sing their way in solving heavy arithmetic, land surveying, currency conversion etc, all in their heads (Manash-anka/mental math).

A pond has bloomed with lotus flowers and bees are humming in. If every lotus has a pair of bees, 1 lotus will be empty. If 1 bee sits on each lotus, 1 bee is left w/o a flower. Tell me, how many bees & how many lotuses? A child learning western math today would have to write down simultaneous algebraic equns:

y = 2(x−1)
y =x+1

A village kid trained in Subhankari would visualize the pattern through the rhythm of the verse & shout out the answer instantly: 4 bees & 3 lotuses.

The system was designed not just for puzzles; it was quite useful. It had special rhyming algos to measure the area of irregular agricultural fields, convert weights & find interest rates w/o touching pen & paper.

When British East India Company took over, they did not find an uneducated, illiterate mass. In the 1830’s, William Adam, a British official was assigned to survey education in Bengal. To his astonishment, almost every village had a Pathsala & to his surprise, ordinary peasants were highly literate & numerate.

So, how did they end this system? They did not just ban it; they systematically choked it out using 3 strategies.

1. Thomas Babington Macaulay asserted that Indian knowledge was worthless. Britain needed to create a class of persons, Indian in blood & colour, but English in taste, in opinions, in morals & in intellect. This was the essence of the 1835 Education Act.

The British colonial govt withdrew all state support, land grants & patronage from the traditional Pathsalas. If a school wanted funding or recognition, it had to teach the British curriculum which meant ditching oral Bengali math rhymes & adopting standard British textbooks, slates, and pens.

2. The British Empire was wary of polymaths/local geniuses who could independently compute things using their vernacular imagination. Thus, they militarized clerical maths. In order to run the incredible bureaucracy of the East India Company, they needed an enormous army of obedient clerks & bookkeepers.

Western mathematics stressed a structured, rigid, sequential, written process (showing your work on paper). Even if a Subhankari-trained student gives the correct answer instantly using mental maths, the British system gives zero for it because it does not match the layout in the western textbook. To land a government job/get admittance into a university, you had to forego Shubhankari.

3. Subhankari was intimately tied to local Indian systems of measurement: units like the hath (cubit) for length, bigha for land & monetary conversion involving cowries (shells), aana & rupees. Thus, dismantling subhankari & other such systems de -linked local units of the metric system.

The British centralized economy & standardized measures in law to western imperial measurement (inch, foot, yard & pound). Due to Subhankari's hardwired formulas being used to calculate local Indian units, these became functionally redundant in colonial marketplaces. The last traces of Subhankari almost vanished from mainstream schools when India was adopted the decimal/metric system post-independence.

By replacing an oral, rhyming system with expensive paper, pens & foreign textbooks, the British effectively took math which used to be a community-wide oral art form accessible to the poorest village child & turned it into an elitist, anxiety-inducing subject that required formal institutional schooling.
