The fact that we deserve a life that doesn't hurt doesn't mean the world is going to be enthusiastic about or yielding to our attempts to create that life. It's going to push back-- & we have to not overreact to its pushing back.
Because we absolutely DO deserve that life.
Many of us got exactly the wrong thing reinforced when, as kids, we were praised as "mature" or "good kids" for shutting down.
That didn't teach us how to process or contain anything. That just "taught" us no one wants to hear about it or help us when we're struggling.
It’s a common tactic for a toxic parent to be consumed with religion, & be oblivious to their child’s needs. A parent who doesn’t want to face the ways they’ve hurt their child uses religion as a distraction to buffer reality. Religion is the perfect tool if that’s your goal.
CPTSD recovery mindset is: I see it; I see how I'm reacting; I meet this reaction-- even if it's frustrating-- w/ patience, compassion, & skill.
Again, & again, & again-- no matter what's going on.
Observe, don't absorb.
For many complex trauma survivors, trees, bodies of water, & nature play a role in their recovery that is hard to explain-- & impossible to replace.
The three big, common triggers for most CPTSD survivors are feeling trapped, feeling controlled; & feeling "in trouble."
They mirror the conditions that make complex trauma "complex:" it was inescapable, it unfolded over time, & it permeated our most important relationships.
If you're healing from trauma & you try to "Forgive & forget," or "Just think positive," you're going to delay healing & fuck up your alignment. Trauma is stored energy. You can't tell it how it feels-it tells you. These messages above are for fairytales. Healing needs reality.
What is often named as “too much“ is a person whose lived their whole life in survival mode. No room for mistakes because no one was there to catch them. People who are “too much“ soften when they know they’re safe. They know they’re safe, when they’re accepted for how they are.
The Manitoba legislature has passed Bill 43, adding gender expression to the provincial human rights code.
In this doom and gloom climate, it's important to mark victories like this, to remember that despite the rise of the far right, we can still organize and win for 🏳️🌈 people.
Not getting appropriate or adequate support to understand or cope w/ ADHD, autism, head injures, or complicated medical conditions-- either growing up or in adulthood-- very commonly results in complex PTSD.
Which, itself, is almost never appropriately or adequately addressed.
Because someone shares your name or DNA doesn't mean you are anything like them-- or that you owe them interaction or access to you that compromises your safety, stability, or recovery.
"Okay, but..."
Nope. "But" nothing. Your recovery comes first-- full stop.
You didn’t ruin your life.
You adapted.
To fear. To chaos. To absence.
You made choices based on survival, not desire.
But now you’re safe enough to want more.
And the Light Within doesn’t shame you for your past.
It simply asks: “Are you ready now?”
