Today in 1832, men from New Salem, IL, having volunteered to serve in the militia during the Black Hawk War, meet and elect Lincoln the captain of their company. He states in his 1860 autobiography that this gave him more satisfaction than any other success.
Here are some behind the scenes of when our paved trailhead was done. This is the path you would take to hike our nature trails. We have one that loops in our Woodland Restoration and another that passes sinkholes and historic markers.

UPDATE: Due to ongoing mechanical issues, Empire Builder Train 7/27 which departed on 7/19 will reverse back to Chicago (CHI) for additional servicing. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
