He-Man is my favorite Hero of all time. Not, "I watched this when I was 6, and I really liked it." No. I revisit the comics and cartoons regularly the way one does with a favorite movie. I find He-Man truly aspirational.
This new movie is so grossly miscast, and mocks the property with such cynicism. It is garbage that is grabbing the attention of the NPCs because it LOOKS vaguely accurate. They have ignored the actual lore, and honor memes instead.
MotU is not meant to be a comedy. It is an earnest story of an aspirational hero and his allies protecting their world from evil. The comic relief in the original cartoon was certainly there, a lot, but it never came at the expense of dramatic moments. We could have had another Princess Bride, which handled the balance expertly, but instead, we got Men in Tights.
Excellent successor to Reeve, right look, bigger, actually tall enough. Maybe not jacked enough for modern supes, but quite fine for a more silver age look. The suit should have been brighter, bolder, particlularly the red, and the script could be better, but, again, as successor to Reeve, perfectly adequate.
Yes yes yes, I understand that. Let me state my point differently: more faithfulness and long term relationships. I don't want superman to change, and I don't want to see him with anybody but Lois. If they do a future timelune, I want to see him mourn her death and remain a widower, faithful to his true love even after the grave.
