Amputee footballers gathered for a tournament in Deir al-Balah, Gaza. The team was supposed to be participating in the World Cup qualifiers in Jakarta, Indonesia, but the war and border closures prevented them from traveling.

In the aftermath of the March earthquake in #Myanmar, Médecins Sans Frontières (@MSF) worked closely with the community of Kaylar Village, located on Inle Lake in Southern Shan State, to restore and improve access to clean drinking water for nearly 5,000 residents. These efforts were essential after the earthquake damaged the previous pipeline and purification system, and the lake—once relied upon for drinking water—had become contaminated with chemicals over recent years.

This initiative highlights the importance of partnership and community engagement in building resilience beyond emergency situations. By supporting Kaylar Village in rebuilding and improving its water supply system, MSF not only reduces the risk of waterborne diseases like acute watery diarrhea and skin infections but also promotes better hygiene practices and long-term public health. Reliable access to clean water empowers communities to thrive, restoring dignity and strengthening their ability to face future challenges.

We need to #TalkAboutSudan and drone strikes and hospitals

Kornoi, Tine and Um Baru areas in North Darfur have experienced a sharp rise in drone attacks in recent days, causing many people to flee to Chad. In a horrifying attack a drone struck Kornoi Hospital on 3 November, killing and injuring several patients, including children and two pregnant women.

@MSF teams in Tine, Chad, have received 50 patients injured in drone strikes in this area of Sudan since 24 October 2025.

@MSF teams were also forced to withdraw temporarily because of these strikes. Teams are working to return to support healthcare facilities and help to ensure healthcare access, but repeated drone strikes make this challenging.

“MSF is deeply concerned about the impact of drone strikes on civilians and humanitarian access and horrified that a hospital was hit. Attacks on healthcare facilities endanger lives and force some of the few remaining health services to shut down. Hospitals must always be safe places where people can get the care they need.”

Hospitals must be respected, all patients must be protected, and humanitarians must be able to move safely to support health facilities and staff so that people are able to access the assistance and care they need.

On 27 and 28 July, MSF-supported clinics treated hundreds of people injured at food distribution sites and from ongoing attacks in Gaza. On 27 July alone, medical teams at the MSF-supported Sheikh Radwan clinic in north Gaza treated over 150 patients from five different mass casualty incidents. 54 people suffered gunshot wounds, crush injuries and stabbings while scrambling for aid.

Dangerous “aid points” that distribute tiny quantities of supplies are causing death and injury and are draining exhausted medical teams. Al Zawaida field hospital in Deir Al Balah is over capacity, with no space for new patients. Within three weeks, the field hospital increased its bed capacity from 70 to 115 beds, but this still doesn’t come close to meeting the massive medical needs.

The Ministry of Health and nearby hospitals are also overwhelmed. Most trauma cases require major surgeries for limb and abdominal injuries, yet we have no stock of external fixators to heal broken bones and we are running out of other supplies, including blood and critical antibiotics.

The ongoing blockade and the dangerous and disorganised practices of providing the bare minimum of food to a starving population are fuelling desperation and internal violence, while placing an unbearable burden on Gaza’s collapsing health system.
