Here’s a quick message to high school parents and athletes who want to play in college…
Hit the weights 🙂
These are pro guys who make their livelihood from their sport and even at their level they don’t neglect the weight room. They know it’s a game changer.
If you REALLY want to see your kids development sky rocket FAST…. Hit the weight room multiple times/wk for Months/Years. Ya it’s not flashy… but it works!
Everyone, meet Marcus.
Marcus is a travel ball coach who is pissed that a high school football program is doing what high school football programs do every single year, have summer football practice.
Don’t be like Marcus.
Players: COMMUNICATE with your eyes! 👀
Eye Contact 👁️
👉 Shows Trust
👉 Confirms Listening
👉 Develops Connection
A lack thereof is the complete opposite. Can't coach a player that doesn't make eye contact. 💯
I didn’t play sports in the summer.
I didn’t have a personal trainer/coach.
I rode my bike in the neighborhood and played. The reason I made it was bc I loved the game and God gave me the talent to play it.
High Volumes, not High Intensities creates Fatigue that delays the ability to realize improvement in performance.
The body is very tolerant to intensity, as long as it’s in low doses.
High Volume Strength Training has all the cost with smaller reward.
Intensity is 👑
No, parents. The weight room is not what’s dangerous.
The bigger issue is asking kids to play 5–8 games a week year-round, with no true offseason, then blaming strength training when their bodies start breaking down.
Lack of robustness is the problem.
If I wanted to destroy an athletes athleticism, I’d have them do this:
· Stop training in-season
· Skip breakfast
· Condition/run every day
· Skip rest between sprints
· Max out on lifts every week
· Lift like a bodybuilder
· Live on energy drinks & no water
· Have shitty sleeping habits
· Scroll on the phone during training
· Try a new training program every month
HS athletes:
Summer workouts are less than 10% of your time. If you cannot carve out 4-7% of your week to train with your teammates & coaches then you are not a serious athlete. There is plenty of time left to work, swim, fish, sleep, etc. Get to workouts & get better!!
Congrats to Kai Vanis for being named to the Journal Star Super-State Baseball 1st Team! Kai broke several records this year including career triples, single season HR, and career HR! Here Kai is pictured with the former single season HR record holder, Aaron Molinaro⚡️
I really wish parents & athletes would spend the money on extra trainers on food/meal prep & recovery modalities. That extra evening session u’re doing for additional S&C work after your 1.5hr meticulously planned training session with ur team isn’t moving the needle like u think
More than deserving! The ultimate competitor and teammate, without Kate Miller we wouldn’t be where we are today as a program! Congrats Kate, we are so proud of you!
This isn’t a knock on skill work.
Individual instruction, sport specific practice and technical development all matter.
The problem is when that becomes the only thing an athlete does.
Over the years, I’ve seen more and more young athletes who have accumulated a lot of
It's my hope to one day convince coaches and athletes that they DO NOT need to condition like this. Over the last 30 years, despite being open minded, I remain convinced more than ever that this is detrimental to elite performance and causes much more harm than any alleged benefit.
THERE IS a better way.
Every high school football team in America will soon begin their summer workouts.
I’m here to discourage as many coaches as I can from having their players run 20 110s as I possibly can.
